How to merge and generate labels using label templates
Overview
Zoho Writer's label templates allow you to create professional, personalized, ready-to-print labels in Avery or custom specs in just a few clicks. You can create address, shipping, return address, and event badge labels. You can design labels in three ways in Zoho Writer:
- From Avery templates
- Using an existing PDF
- Using pre-defined label templates
Prerequisities
- Ensure the PDF is less than 10 MB
Steps
Create labels
- Launch the Zoho Writer dashboard.
- Click Create New at the top-right corner and choose Label template from the drop-down.
- Choose Create from Template to create labels from an Avery template and choose your preferred label type and click Create.
- Choose Create over PDF to create labels using an existing PDF file and upload your PDF.
Connect Datasource
- A label template will open. Connect your data source and add the relevant fields from the data source to the label template. List of data sources supported in Zoho Writer.
Design Labels
- Drag and drop the fields in your labels. After designing your labels, you can
- Use Copy to all to copy the design to all labels.
- Use Clear this label to clear the current label's design.
- Use Clear all labels to clear all the labels' designs.
- Click Preview to preview the generated labels. You can print or download the labels from the Preview screen.
Note
- You can also create a label template from within a document by clicking File > New Automation Template > Label Template.
- If you redesign an existing label in the label template, you need to use the Copy to all option to copy the new design to all the labels in your template.
Create labels using pre-defined label templates
- Open Zoho Writer dashboard.
- Go to Document Templates > Public Templates.
- Choose Labels and Envelopes.
- Click your preferred template and click Use This Template.
- Go to Automate > Merge Template.
- Connect your data source and add the relevant fields from the data source to the label template.
- Click Preview Merge to preview the generated labels. You can print or download the labels from the Preview Merge screen.
Note
- Label templates are available under Zoho Writer's credit-based pricing model. One credit will be consumed for each label page downloaded.
For example, downloading a 3-page label document will consume 3 credits.
Troubleshooting
1. Error symptom: The PDF upload fails
Possible cause: The uploaded PDF may exceed the size limit, might contain text, have more than one page, or doesn't have a shape
Recommended solution: Ensure the PDF doesn't exceed 10 MB and has only one page and contains a shape. Here is a sample label PDF
