How to send fillable and sign templates for signature via DocuSign in Zoho Writer

Overview

Zoho Writer now integrates with DocuSign, allowing you to send fillable templates and sign templates for e-signature directly through DocuSign. This integration enables you to prepare documents within Zoho Writer—adding signer fields, configuring roles, and setting up workflows—and then route them to recipients via DocuSign for signature collection.
This is ideal for organizations that rely on DocuSign as their primary e-signature platform while using Zoho Writer for document creation and automation. This is currently not supported in merge templates and will be available soon.

Prerequisites

Before you can send documents for signature via DocuSign, ensure you have a valid DocuSign account.

Steps

How to send documents for signature collection

  1. Go to FileNew Automation TemplateFillable Template or Sign Template.
  2. Design your document content or import a PDF.
  3. From the Fields Panel > Signer Fields, drag and drop the required fields (Signature, Name, Date, Initials, etc.) onto the document and assign each field to the appropriate signer (Signer A, Signer B, etc.) from the Signers List.
  4. Click Send for Sign and in the signing service selection, choose DocuSign.
  5. If prompted, authenticate with your DocuSign credentials to establish the connection.
  6. Enter the signer details—name and email address for each recipient and assign appropriate roles to each signer.
  7. Set the signing order and configure additional settings such as expiration date and reminders to prompt signers.
  8. Click Send to route the document to recipients via DocuSign.

How to track signature collection status

  1. Open the template you sent for signature collection.
  2. Click View Submission Log or View Log.
  3. Check the signature collection status on the Submission Logs page.

Limitations

  1. No signer resize or position controls: DocuSign does not support signer field properties such as resizing width, height, or moving the signer field position.
  2. No passcode protection: DocuSign does not support setting a passcode for signers to access the document.
  3. No signer language selection: You cannot choose a specific language for email notifications and the signing interface when using DocuSign.
  4. Plain text messages only: Common messages sent to signers support only plain text; rich text formatting (bold, italic, emojis) is not available.
