Rich text Merge field - Not using font specified in HTML

I have a rich text merge field in a writer template which is creating a table. I have chosen to use this method instead of a repeat region because I need to specify specific cell background colours which change every time the document is created.

The problem I'm facing is that I need to specify a specific font for one of the columns. That font has been loaded into the template. But the document is ignoring the font specified.

This is a table based on sample data. For some reason, the icon is showing up here, but in the writer document, it just shows as the letter "o". The symbol will be different for each row when the issue with the font is fixed, but I have just used the 1 character a the icon simply for testing.

How can I go about fixing the issue with Writer not using the correct font specified in the HTML?
