Introducing ANR in Apptics' crash analytics

Hello, Apptics community!

A recent update from Google elaborates on how the app's technical quality can affect its visibility and ranking in the Google Play Store. Android vitals such as crashes and ANRs (App Not Responding) play a major role here.

ANR errors are triggered at instances when an app becomes unresponsive or frozen to any user input, event, or draw within five seconds. This is when the system OS prompts an Application Not Responding popup, giving the user the option to either force-quit the app or wait till the app becomes responsive.

ANRs happen when the main thread (especially the UI thread) of an Android app gets blocked for a long time. These issues impact the app's overall user experience and lead to user frustration.

Introducing ANR reporting and analysis in Zoho Apptics

You can now analyze the issues caused by ANR errors and diagnose them from within the Apptics console.

Navigate to Quality > Crashes to get stats on the reported ANRs and access detailed reports to identify the root cause and fix issues.

Apart from adding ANRs, we have made a few more enhancements to our Crash module.

New filters

We have added two more filters in the Crashes module for grouping fatal exceptions based on:

  • Type - Crashes and ANRs

  • App framework - Native, React Native, and Flutter.

Tags for individual issues

For more clarity, you will see tags beside each issue listed in the console. One tag will notify whether it is an ANR or a crash. The other tag will specify the app framework for which the crash or ANR is reported.

An easier way to see crash instances

You no longer need to click on an individual issue and scroll to the bottom of the crash details page to see the list of crash instances that happened across different devices. Instead, you can now simply click on Show List, and it will show you the list of all the crash instances.
