How do I update a Quick Part without re-inserting it?
Overview
By default, a Quick Part is inserted as static content, so later changes to it don’t update copies already in your documents. To keep all copies in sync automatically, insert it as an AutoField.
Prerequisites
Save the reusable content as a Building Block:
Select the content.
Go to Insert → Quick Parts → Save Selection to Quick Part Gallery.
Enter a name for the QuickPart.
Steps
Open the document.
Go to Insert → Quick Parts → Insert from Library.
3. Select the QuickPart from required QuickPart category and click Insert as AutoField.
You can also insert a 'Quick Part as an Autofield' from Fields tab.
Note: QuickParts inserted as AutoFields appear as fields and will display with gray shading when selected.
4. Whenever QuickPart content is modified, go to the Quick Part in the document and choose the required update option to apply the changes.
- Refresh or Update this field only — updates the selected Quick Part.
- Update all instances of this Quick Part field — updates the same Quick Part across the document.
- Update all Quick Part fields — updates all Quick Parts in the document.
