Reusable Custom Functions Across Department Workflows

Reusable Custom Functions Across Department Workflows

Dear Zoho Desk Team,

We appreciate the powerful workflow automation capabilities in Zoho Desk, particularly the ability to create and use custom functions within workflows. However, we have encountered a limitation that impacts efficiency and maintainability.

Currently, custom functions created within a workflow in one department cannot be directly reused in another department’s workflow. The only way to replicate a function across departments is by manually copying and pasting the code into each workflow separately. This creates several challenges:

  • Duplication of effort: Every time a function needs to be used in a different department, it must be manually recreated.
  • Inconsistent updates: If a function needs to be modified, every instance across all departments must be updated individually, increasing the risk of errors and inconsistencies.
  • Time-consuming maintenance: Making changes to multiple versions of the same function requires additional time and effort.

Feature Request

We would like the ability to create reusable custom functions that can be defined once and applied across multiple workflows in different departments. Ideally, these functions should be managed from a centralized repository, ensuring that any updates made to the function are automatically reflected in all workflows that utilize it.

Benefits of This Feature

  • Improved efficiency: Eliminates redundant work when setting up similar workflows in different departments.
  • Easier maintenance: Updates to the function would be applied globally, reducing errors and inconsistencies.
  • Better scalability: As organizations grow and create more workflows, managing automation will be significantly easier.

We believe this enhancement would greatly improve workflow automation in Zoho Desk, making it more flexible and scalable for businesses with multiple departments.

Thank you for considering this request. We appreciate your continued efforts to enhance Zoho Desk’s capabilities.

Best regards,
Ram
