Dear Apptics Community,
As your app grows, so does the need to understand your user base. Grouping users by specific attributes can be a game-changer, helping you uncover which user segments are most active.
Previously, grouping users at the org level offered limited flexibility. Now, with the introduction of our new feature User groups, you can define user segments by a variety of attributes—such as language, region, or any custom string—making it easier to track user engagement across different categories.

Note: For now, you can group your users only on a single attribute.
How to add a user group to your app
To create a user group, specify the grouping attribute as a string in the SDK. You can group users by a single attribute, for instance:
- Org: Ideal for B2B apps, where grouping users by their organization provides valuable insights into activity trends.
- Region: Monitor how users from different locations interact with your app.
- Language: Identify how engagement varies by language preference.
For detailed instructions, refer to our SDK guides:
How to analyze user groups in Apptics
In the Apptics console, navigate to Audience > User group in the left menu.

Here, you can view the total number of active and new user groups and the count of inactive/total user groups for the selected date range. At the bottom, you’ll find a list of all user groups.
For instance, if you grouped your users by Org, you’ll see a list of all the orgs using your app.

Click on an individual user group to view detailed stats.

The detailed stats include:
- The number of new users registered in this user group.
- The number of active users in this user group.
- The number of new devices registered in this user group.
- The number of active devices in this user group.
New users
A new user in Apptics is defined as someone who opens the app for the first time and consents to tracking. If user groups are enabled, each new user is also assigned to a specific group, such as by organization, region, or language. This feature allows you to track user growth and engagement across different segments.
Active users
An active user is someone who uses the app and creates a session within a certain period, like daily, weekly, or monthly. Using user groups, you can check the activity levels of different user segments to find out which groups use the app the most. This enables you to tailor content to each group’s interests, providing a more personalized experience for users.
New devices
A new device is a device registered with the app for the first time. Upon installation and consent to tracking, Apptics identifies it as a new device. Devices are also categorized within user groups, which allows analysis of device adoption across different segments.
Active devices
An active device is a unique device that creates sessions with the app within a specified period, like daily, weekly, or monthly. Using user groups, you can monitor device activity levels across different segments to identify which groups use the app most frequently. This provides valuable insights into app usage patterns, helping you optimize content and features to better match each group’s needs.

Note: A single user can register multiple devices, and a single device can be registered with multiple users.
At the bottom of the User group page, you'll also find:
- Device details such as model, OS version, and app version.
- Registration dates and the last session data for individual devices.
A perfect fit for B2B applications
You can easily segment your app users on an organizational level to understand the app usage within each organization better. These insights can help you come up with a strategic plan to increase app usage and boost retention among organizations with less usage.
