Tip #22- Enhancing security and reliability in Zoho Assist: Preferences for unattended access- 'Insider Insights'

Hello Zoho Assist Community!

We are back again this week with a few settings options under Preferences that can help you deliver smoother and more effective remote support.

Especially for IT administrators managing unattended remote devices and applications, it's essential to prevent unauthorized changes and ensure secure access. Here’s how to address three common concerns: preventing uninstallation, stopping services, and allowing connections only to approved devices.

Preventing uninstallation from the Control Panel

If a customer attempts to uninstall the unattended access application (intentionally or unintentionally), it will disrupt the remote support setup. For instance, a company using remote support for their IT infrastructure may face significant downtime if an employee accidentally uninstalls the application, leading to a loss of remote support capabilities and delaying crucial IT assistance.

To avoid such incidents, navigate to Settings and then click Preferences. Scroll down to Unattended Access and select the checkbox to prevent uninstallation of the unattended access application.

Prevent customer from uninstalling the unattended access application from the control panel. (Only for Windows)

Preventing stopping of services

A customer stopping the unattended access application's services will also cause a loss of remote connection and support interruptions. Imagine a manufacturing company where the production line relies on continuous monitoring and maintenance via remote support. If a worker stops the unattended access service, it could halt remote diagnostics and repairs, leading to costly production delays.

To prevent stopping the service, select the checkbox below.

Allowing connection only to approved devices

To ensure secure connections are established exclusively with approved devices and prevent unauthorized access, devices configured for unattended access by technicians must be approved by the super admin before the technician can access the device. This protocol ensures technicians only connect to approved devices, safeguarding sensitive data from potential breaches.

To enable access to approved devices, select the corresponding checkbox under preferences.

Allow connection only to approved unattended devices.

By configuring these settings in Zoho Assist's Preferences, you can enhance the security and reliability of your remote support operations for unattended devices.
