What's new: introducing unified language and region controls in Writer

We're giving locale settings in Writer a handy revamp aimed at creating a simpler experience while working with multiple languages and regions in Writer.

Here's everything that's new or updated:

1. New shortcuts to set defaults

For starters, we're adding a new Language & Region menu for you to get a bird's-eye view of all your locale settings in one place. The region you choose here will set your spelling, date, number, and currency preferences in the document.

To set your preferences for a particular document, use the Language & Region button on the bottom panel.

To set default preferences for all your documents, use the new Language & Region shortcut under the gear icon ⚙on the top right corner.

2. Better contextual date format suggestions

The date format dialog in Writer will now contextually show formats widely used in a specific region and language, making it easier to pick the most accurate date format (even if it's a completely new region for you!).

For example, if you want to insert a date for people who speak Arabic, all you have to do is to set "Arabic" as your language in the Date Format dialog. Writer will only show you the list of formats best suited for that language.

3. New regions added

Each of the spelling, date format, number format, and currency menus will now show a wider list of regions and languages. Can't find your preferred language on the list? Let us know so we can add it in the next update!

Pro-tip:

Working with multilingual documents? While date formats are automatically taken from the document language or region you've already set, you can still choose a different format in the date, currency, and other menus individually.

That's all for now. Let us know your thoughts on the new updates: comment below, or write to us at support@zohowriter.com.

Happy writing!
