Aggregate formulas in tabular view?

Why can't we use aggregate formulas in a tabular report? Why is such a simple feature missing?

This says that you use aggregate while creating "all reports" and "as you would use a column in a table", but tabular reports are not included so you can't use it as you would a column in a table.
