Offline Editing of Writer Documents
Folks,
One of the most eagerly awaited features asked for is out now. Zoho Writer now provides users with offline editing capabilities. What this means for you folks is that documents can be created, viewed & edited even when one is not connected to internet. Users on the move where there is limited(weak Wi-Fi) or no internet connectivity like aeroplanes, cabs, remote villages do not have to wait to get online and access their Zoho Writer documents. They can now access and edit the Writer documents offline using the "Go Offline" feature. Here's how the Go Offline feature works:
Zoho Writer's Offline implementation is based on Google Gears. Users accessing the "Go Offline" link for the first time will be asked to install Google Gears. Remember this is only a one-time installation and you can start accessing the offline feature by restarting the browser. Google Gears browser extension is available for both Internet Explorer 6+ and Firefox 1.5+.
Once the Google Gears installation is done and the browser restarted, users can click on Go Offline to make their documents (both personal and shared docs) available offline and access them by using the following url: writer.zoho.com/offline.
By default 15 documents are downloaded to your hard drive to be available offline. Users can change the options by clicking on the down arrow beside Go Offline link to download more documents (Maximum 25 docs are allowed as of now). Now when you unplug the Internet cable and go offline, you will still be able to edit and save your documents inside the web browser just like you could do in online mode using the url writer.zoho.com/offline. And the next time you connect to the Internet and switch to online mode by clicking "Go Online", all the changes made to documents locally will automatically be synchronized with the online copy so there are no discrepancies and you always have one version to work with.
Please refer to the attached images for details. If you are still having trouble in grasping the Offline feature, check out the video over here that simulates the entire "Offline/Online" function.
Thanks,
Ahmed
