Viewing and Actioning on PST and EML Emails Stored on Your Mac Using Trident (macOS)

In this article, we'll explore how to view emails in Trident that you've saved in PST and EML file formats in your Mac, and the available email actions to work with them.

Info

Note: This article explores accessing .pst and .eml emails in the Trident desktop app. Click here for the Zoho Mail web app's help documentation.

Opening PST and EML Files

If you've set Trident as your default email client, upon double-clicking the file, it will automatically open in Trident.

If Trident is not your default email client:

  1. Right-click the PST or EML file you want to open.

  2. Select Open With from the menu list.

  3. Choose Trident.

Importing PST and EML Files to Trident

If you're migrating from Outlook or other email clients to Trident, you can easily access your locally stored email archives by importing the PST/EML files directly in Trident. This does not impact your cloud mailbox storage.

Actioning on Imported PST and EML Emails

The following Mail Composer actions are supported for you to work with EML and PST emails:
  • Read emails in list and detail views
  • Browse emails organized by their original folder hierarchy

  • Search within imported file folders

  • Reply to, reply all, and forward emails

  • Search and find matching keywords in email body

  • Richly format email content

  • Add and download attachments and upload them to Zoho WorkDrive using Smart Flow

  • Set reminders and priority

  • Secure email with passcode

  • Insert templates and signatures

  • Ask for read receipts

  • Share drafts

  • Schedule emails to send later

  • Forward emails as attachments

  • Print emails

  • Edit emails as new

  • Mark emails as read or unread

  • Flag an email

  • Tag an email

  • Delete emails

  • Perform bulk actions across multiple emails

  • Use AI features such as Summarize and Rephrase on email content

Notes

Notes:

  • Replying to, forwarding, or editing an email from an imported file opens a new compose window. The action is not linked to the original message thread. All sent emails are stored in the Sent folder of your primary email account.

  • When you delete an imported email, it is permanently deleted from both Trident and the original PST file and the extracted EML folder on your Mac. This cannot be undone.
