How to position images in Zoho Writer
Overview
Position controls let you place images exactly where you want them, whether inline with text or floating on the page. You can use presets or advanced custom settings to align images relative to the page, margins, columns, or paragraphs.
Steps
Inline vs floating images
- Inline images behave like characters in text and move with the paragraph.
- Floating images sit above the text layer and allow wrapping and manual positioning.
How to position an image using presets
- Click the floating image.
- Go to Positioning > Custom.
- Choose a preset to quickly align the image to:
- Center
- Top / bottom
- Left / right
- Relative to margin, page, column, or line
How to custom position an image
- Click the image.
- Open Positioning > Custom > Edit.
- Set:
- Horizontal alignment (page, column, margin, character)
- Vertical alignment (page, paragraph, margin)
- Choose Absolute or Relative position.
Understanding anchors
Floating images attach to an anchor, usually a paragraph. If the anchor moves, the image moves with it.
- Horizontal anchor options include Character, Column, Left margin, Right margin, Inside or outside margins and Page.
- Vertical anchor options include Line, Paragraph, Page, Top / bottom margins
How to set image location using coordinates
- Open Positioning settings.
- Enter:
- X: distance from the anchor’s left edge
- Y: distance from the anchor’s top edge
Additional Notes
- Even absolute positioning does not lock an image to a fixed page. If the anchored paragraph shifts to another page, the image moves with it.
- To reduce movement, anchor the image to a stable structural element such as the page or margin when possible.
