Hello,
As a Zoho Projects user for more than 2 years, a person who has provided ample feedback and often received constructive responses and a person who has driven over a hundred users to your systems, I'm writing one more time with only one week before you say you will stop 3.0 to concisely restate the case of the Classic View features.
And to ask for a voting response from the readers of this group.
The problem I am reporting is that the only way to interact with a task on the Classic View is by opening the Task Pane which covers the right side of my screen. In previous versions, you had a very useful interactivity of being able to mouse over any aspect of a task and modify it directly inline.
I invite anyone reading this who does not know what I'm talking about to choose the "old version" option at the top right of your screen under your name menu and look at a task list. You see that, when you mouse over Start Date, or Owner or any other item, an arrow appears and you can make a change in one click to that item without loading the Task Pane. If you want to load the Task Pane, you can by clicking on the task name, but further controls are also added right on the Classic View when you pass your mouse just to the left of the Task. A "cog" appears you there you can cleanly manage the task's other features.
This is a nice redundancy and it allowed me to work in a task list as a LIST without having to open any separate window or drill too much down into the minutia unless I wanted to. Though there is no benefit gained in removing it, Zoho has removed this very useful feature. I have written, since November multiple messages with feature requests, and bug reports and will here list just what is lost or ruined by REQUIRING use of this new Task Pane layout.
1- To change a task date, 2 more clicks are generated per change. One to open, the other to close the task pane. This is the same for any change. 2 more clicks plus load time than the inline changing. Add up the clicks my fellow project managers, then comment here that you want inline reinstated.
2- The Task Pane covers entirely all the dates of the other tasks in the Task List. So when you are plotting a workflow, you lose the global vision. I have literally resorted to writing down on paper the dates, then going through the workflow planning because I would so often "lose my place" in the task list dates. That is absurd that I have to resort to paper and pen in order to work inside your cloud saas integrated solution! Try to plan out a 10 item task list that spans over one month my colleagues, and if you see the same pain, then comment that you want inline reinstated.
3- Independant of the screen size or computer I'm using, this windows "resizes" always to be larger than the window I am using. I'm having to scroll back and forth for any right column configurations on this Task Pane. For my users with IE, it's even worse. When they scroll over to the right, the Task Pane actually jumps over even further right- justifying itself once again out of screen. Uncountably many extra clicks and drags per modification. This is a bug that may be fixed by Zoho to make the Task Pane fit, BUT, if I had access right from the Task Line itself, like in previous versions, then this would be moot anyway. Please request, dear reader that inline be reinstated.
4- Popular demand. I'm not the only user requesting this return of features. I've tried with less zeal to see if others want this and have had some response. But we're with our backs against an arbitrary wall. Zoho has responded in another post that it will be adding Classic View to the main page to allow for task tracking across Projects, BUT have handily refused to reinstate an existing feature. IF they are willing to work on Classic View, then this is potentially still on the table. So I'm asking here for a concentrated thread of public reinforcement that the inline change features of a task be reinstated on Classic View.
You don't have to write much, just copy this:
Hey Zoho, please reinstate inline task changes to the Classic View.
Then paste it into a comment of this thread.
Not copying and pasting can then be interpreted as a vote for the feature's removal from the 4.0 final release.
I must accept Zoho's decision. Though it may cause a consequential decision by my own company as well, which Zoho would have to accept. I see that they respond well most of the time, and hopefully this sensible message will bring about a sensible and personal response this time.
Looking forward,
Adrian @Itallis
