All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

Well, yes. That's true! Tiring work, buzzing coffee makers, busy turnstiles , occupied meeting rooms, back-to-back status updates and what not. Your everyday routine need not have to be this hectic. It can be more rewarding. It can be more fun.

Zoho Projects believes in this fact and hence has launched Gamescope - A module that turns every project into an exciting game and boosts the spirit of your team by leaps and bounds.

What is Gamescope?

Gamescope is a new module that is built within Zoho Projects where one can earn rewards for the work completed by them and stay motivated at the workplace. With Gamescope, you can convert any herculean project into an exciting game and make it as interesting as possible. Learn more on  how to configure Gamescope in your portal here .

What can I do with Gamescope?

You can set up new games, create your own squad, customize rewards, declare points for every trophy and badge that you create and so on. Learn more here .

What's a trophy and what's a badge?

  • A trophy is a reward associated with a game. When tasks or bugs are resolved, points keep getting added to your profile. When the game gets over, the players will be ranked and the one with the highest score owns the trophy.
  • Unlike trophy, a badge is a reward that's given to a player as and when tasks or bugs are resolved. A game need not have to be scheduled for a player to win a badge. You can directly set badges for tasks or bugs and keep the ball rolling.

Where do I use a trophy?

Say, you have got just a day to fix all the issues in a project that is scheduled for the upcoming launch. The developers feel the heat and as a manager you need to make the work light in spite of the heat. In such a challenging situation, you can set a game up and add the team members as players and kick-start the game immediately. It's your call to schedule the game either for the whole day or for smaller time intervals.

So, you add a game called Bug Squasher , set your team and start it off. It's that simple. When the game is on, your peers turn into players and work sportively. The faster they fix the issues, the more points they earn. This means the bugs in your project are getting fixed at a much faster rate. At the end of the day, its a win-win situation for both. On one hand you get a bug-free project and on the other hand your team feels positive and accomplished.

Where do I use a badge?

You can use badges when you don't want to create a competition or meet a tight deadline. If you wish to reward your peers on a regular basis and evaluate their performance in the long run, then you can opt to have badges.

Can I schedule a game within a specific project?

No, you cannot add a new game at the project level. Instead, you can set it up at the portal level and set the trophies and badges at the project level. In this way, you can ensure that the players are rewarded at the project level.

How do I set a trophy or a badge for a specific project?

It is possible to set a trophy or a badge for a specific project. When you customize a trophy or a badge, you can set the criteria to match a specific project. Only if the tasks or bugs in that specific project are resolved, those trophies and badges will be rewarded.

      • Tip: How to print the Gantt View

Though we move from the traditional project management system (using papers) to an online project management system, we still prefer to have a printed copy of the activities/tasks that are to be done in the project. This way, we can carry the to-do lists with us for the meetings and refer when we are offline. The print option, available at the right side of the page, allows the users to print the project information across all the modules. However, this option failed to print all the tasks & milestones

      • Four types of task dependencies

"Nothing is particularly hard if you divide it into small jobs."                                                                                                                  - Henry Ford Projects, small or large, are driven by simple work units called tasks. Monitoring standalone tasks might look simple but as the workflow becomes elaborate, tasks may start relying on one another. In project management, this relationship between tasks is termed as "Task Dependencies". Dependency between tasks arise
      • Task and Project numbering

Zoho Projects now generates a unique number for each project, task, and issue added. The auto-generated ID is a combination of a prefix and a number which is assigned by Zoho Projects. The unique IDs for projects, tasks, and issues will be useful to track, identify, and search easily. You can modify the settings to enable or disable the Project and Task IDs.  Learn more on how to modify Prefix & ID settings for projects and tasks. • Task Inline Editing Enhancement

Hi All, Today, we have made an enhancement in task inline editing. In 4.0, task edit is moved in a single screen in a pop-up. We designed this in-order to make the task edit across the product to be the same. Let it be in Feeds, Tasks & My Tasks tab, Calendar & My Calendar tab, a click on the task title will open the popup and user can edit the values. Customers pointed us the inline editing was very useful to them & how much they miss that in 4.0. Based on the feedback, we have rolled out this enhancement.
