The Zoho Creator 6 - 100Rails Manifesto
Hi Folks
I thought if I DON'T ask I will never get , so below is a list of FEATURES or FEATURE CHANGES that I have been thinking about for a while with ZC 5 that I wish were being included.
I have listed below some areas that I think need rethinking:
- SECURITY needs standardising on Profiles that can be SHARED and new users INVITED programmatically. Do NOT tie menu sections to security. Improve the profiles with deluge commands.
- USER INTERFACE needs improving for Developers as the number of clicks to edit and find workflow deluge code has slowed down development by a factor of at least 300% as we try to find which code we should be adding or editing to make things work
- REPORTS and CHARTS are still clunky and not like the full abilities of Zoho Analytics. Drilldown cannot be formatted, reports are not filtered with fixed filters that the user cannot change.
- MENU SECTIONS are very confusing for larger apps. Especially when you hide components and they are attached to sections that no longer exist and then it is very confusing when the web gets out of sync with the phone and tablet versions
- WORKFLOWS and custom functions are SORTED by Added date Not function name??? Very confusing when trying to find grouped functions
- THEMES need improvement so we can ADD our own CSS and javascript. This would allow us to include other tools to increase the functionality of the solutions. For example, being able to add the Google TRacking code so we can see which functions are being clicked on and used by users. Also being able to add our own LOGOS to the menu or screen and rearrange menu structures etc with better UI experiences
- STATEMENT limits need rethinking for experienced developers and speeding up so iterating over hundreds of ROWS of records does not take an eternity. Modern databases should be able to update thousands of rows quickly.
- KANBAN view needs improvement in the filters that are available for the column values.
- TIMELINE view needs the ability to have a column with ROWS that have NO TIME or DATE assigned yet (ie so work that is NOT scheduled can be dragged onto the calendar. ALSO, the ability to position where the start date is for displaying the timeline needs parameters, AND you need a WEEKLY view with the ability to specify the increments points (not just hourly) maybe you might want just a daily timeline
- NOTIFICATIONS need a complete OVERHAUL so you can simply use a deluge command and SENDMSG to a user or portal user with 140 character title and possibly a RICH text message body and the ability to define some buttons that will allow you to say YES to something which fires a custom action or redirect the user to a form and record etc.
- SANDBOX needs improvement so that deploying changes is MUCH faster and less risky
- CODE EDITOR needs improvement to BUG tracking and line by line debugging so that you can step through code, test what a variable is set to and ensure your code is working properly. BETTER error messages and enhancing the error log so we can WRITE errors to it would be great.
- IDE needs custom functions included with a search filter box at the top.
- CUSTOM FUNCTIONs should NOT be hidden away in the settings area it needs closer integration with Workflow like ZC4 used to have. A Global library of custom functions that are predone would also be handy.
- RECORD TEMPLATES need an overhaul so multiple reports can be attached to sent emails as PDF's and also you can name the PDF's with deluge code
- SEND EMAIL needs enhanced tracking ability so you can see when an email bounces or when someone opened and email or when someone clicked something in the email
- SUBFORMS need the ability to have a number of ROWS that are loaded initially and then the ability to SCROLL and load more rows as you go. This would allow subforms with over 20 rows, at the moment any subform with over 20 rows can take over 30+ seconds to load and the experience of a huge page on the webapp is NOT great at all.
- EDIT PENCIL on Multi-select lookups would allow us to NOT only Add New multi select lookup records but by adding the pencil to the lookup field values you could then implement a much better experience for users with LESS clicks to edit related records.
- ZOHO SALES IQ or Intercom would be REALLY handy to embed into our apps so we can allow our users to live chat with us as support for them. Also inside the mobile apps
