We currently use tasks as work orders. It works but its not ideal.
Can we make this better?
We create a task for a specific date and assign it to our techs.
They get to the job site and start a timer. When they leave, they stop the timer, add a description, and close the task.
A few ways we can make this better
- right now, who closes the task at the end of the day when several users are tracking time on it. Not closing the task leaves a mess in our system, but closing the task is often not done because ... which user should do it? If this was an Event or a Work Order then it wouldn't need to be closed. We can just track time against it.
- our techs often need to work on specific "tasks" while on site. It would be great to be able to Associate tasks to a work order/event that the techs could quickly reference and mark as complete. Subtasks won't work because when you close the main task, it marks all the subtasks as complete, even if they were never completed. The BUGS or ISSUES section in projects actually does something that would work. The bugs section lets you LINK or Associate other bugs right to it. it's just a quick link. Unfortunately, this is not available on iOS and just the web app.
- We need to be able to mark work orders/ events as billable so the timers are marked billable by default. currently tasks allow us to do this, but if you ever create a system as above we would need this as well.
Basically, we need some sort of work order integration. Events with timers, and linked tasks would get the job done. Please add this.
