Help - How Can I Enter a Hourly Rate (Global Cost) for our Team for Profitability Reporting?

Hi everyone, 

I'm hoping someone can help as I am at a loss and am quite shocked (if true) at the lack of functionality in Zoho Books.

We run a company in which we do hourly jobs for clients and we bill based on the hours of work completed. Projects are ongoing and will be for many years and the teams will change periodically, it's seasonal work.

The different staffing packages we offer mean that a lot of our staff are on different global hourly rates. Most of our jobs have more people on them, the team log their time on Zoho People, the timesheets are pushed through to Zoho Books and we then create invoices monthly. Easy.

Now, to take advantage of the reporting Zoho boasts about, we would like to know the profit margin on these jobs. Billed total for the job - cost of staff for that job. I have been told this is not a supported function.

I'm completely nonplussed as to why you can enter this information but it is not available to use in the profitability report.

I can see you can add in an hourly rate per user on each project in Zoho People. We have over 500 projects and over 15 members of staff, I have been advised to manually update these 7600 records which I think the time I may spend doing this will eat into a chunk of that profit!  I also don't understand the longevity and accuracy of this, if a team member gets a pay rise do I then need to go into every project they are working on to update their global rate?

I also found the Hourly Cost setting in the user on Zoho Books, this states this will only be used/updated for new projects. (I tried this, it didn't update for new projects as mentioned so is pretty pointless) and also doesn't solve the issue of updating the 7600 user records in the pre-existing projects.

As I mentioned, I have spoken to the support team who say this is not supported however is such an important report for us to pull and quite frankly an oversight from team Zoho.

I hope I am wrong and that this is a possibility. Has anyone had the same issue? Does anyone have a work around? At this rate I will have to take the information our of Zoho and into excel and create the report myself which is doable to I'd like the software to collate the data it's given!
