Why am I getting event Pop-up Notification for events that have been cancelled?

Why is Calendar Notification still popping up for events that have been cancelled or changed? Each time events are cancelled or changed, I have observed that I am still getting notifications for them. 

Below is a sample pop-up notification for one of the events that have been cancelled. Why am I getting pop-up notifications for events that have been cancelled and rescheduled?
