Modes of an application

Overview

Zoho Creator has two modes through which you can establish an application from start to finish. You can create an application from scratch or from a template and customize it according to your needs in an app-building space. During that process or after you've completed developing the app, you can check the output of your app-building journey.

You can run through an application in two modes:
  1. Edit mode of the application:
    This mode is u
    sed by super admin, admins, and developers, you can build,v iew, and edit the components of the app, such as the forms, pages, reports, and workflows. The edit mode can be considered the workstation where your application's vision comes to life.
  2. Live mode of the application:
    In this mode, you can view the application's outcome. This mode helps you to have a preview of the application from an end-user's point of view. Users can also access the live mode to input data.

Example: Let's say you are creating an Employee Management app:

  • You will be using the edit mode of the application for constructing the app.

  • You will be using the live mode of the application to use the application you have just built.

URL patterns for edit and live modes

This section outlines the URL patterns for the Zoho Creator applications in both edit and live modes.
  1. Live mode - <base_url>/<org_namespace>/<app_link_name>/#<component_type>:<component_link_name>
  2. Edit mode - <base_url>/appbuilder/<org_namespace>/<app_link_name>/<component_builder_type>/<component_link_name>/edit
where
<base_url>
The base URL of your Creator account:
  1. Edit mode - https://creator.zoho.<dc>/
  2. Live mode - https://creatorapp.zoho.<dc>/
Notes
Note: Ensure to use the URL specific to your Zoho account’s data center (DC). Accessing a different DC’s URL may prevent you from loading your application.
For example, if your account is hosted in Zoho’s US data center, the base URL for live mode is "https://creatorapp.zoho.com", and for edit mode, it is "https://creator.zoho.com".
<org_namespace>
Namespace of your Creator account in which the application exists
<app_link_name>
