Segment Criteria - Online Help | Zoho Campaigns

Segment Criteria

Whenever you create a segment in Zoho Campaigns, you might've wondered how to best use the extensive number of criteria present and what they actually mean. The below series of tables will explain the meaning behind each criteria present in the segment. When creating a segment, you'll first choose a criteria and then a modifier.

You can segregate contacts:
  • Using custom field data to have a segment based on a specific custom field.
  • Using campaign-related activities, such as opens and clicks.
  • Using integration-related fields which will appear when you integrate apps like Zoho CRM, and many other fields.

What are criteria and modifier

Criteria, in a segment, is the complete line consisting of a field, modifier and a value. For instance, Contact Email contains any of '@gmail.com' is a single criteria.

Modifier is the additional filter you apply for a field. You can choose the modifier after choosing the desired criteria. Some of the modifiers include is equal to any of, is not equal to any of, contains any of, etc.

The general format to set a simple criteria is: Field > Modifier > Value.

First, you'll choose the field or criteria, then the modifier and finally the value. In some cases you can choose a value and in other cases you need to type the value. This depends on the field or criteria you're choosing. For further information on the building blocks of a segment, you can refer to this documentation.

Info
You Should Know:
  • You can have a maximum of 10 groups in a segment.
  • You can have a maximum of 50 criteria in the entire segment.

Notes
Note: Depending on the criteria you choose, the segment can either be categorized as Basic segmentation (available in Standard plan) or Advanced segmentation (available in Professional plan).

Please check here to understand the difference between the two, as depending on your current plan and the criteria with which you need to create a segment, you would have to upgrade to the Professional plan.

Fields and their explanations

Below tables will list out each field that is currently available for selection when you create a segment. They are segregated into different categories depending on where you can use them.

How to read the table

The table will have three columns namely Field Name, Explanation, and List of Modifiers.
  1. Field Name - is the name of the criteria.
  2. Explanation - gives a simple meaning of that criteria along with an example.
  3. List of Modifiers - shows the list of modifiers that can be used for a particular criteria.
Notes
Notes:
  • Some fields will have a secondary field/condition that you need to choose.
  • Some modifiers for date-based fields will prompt you to choose an unit in addition to specifying a value. The unit will be days, weeks, months.
