In instances when your Bridge is successfully connected and operational or faces unexpected issues causing disruptions, it is essential to stay informed and respond promptly. This is where the Events module in Bridge proves to be helpful.

The Events module lets you monitor specific occurrences, allowing you to take necessary actions when they occur, ensuring smooth operations. By defining certain situations as events, you can set up alerts and Webhooks for immediate action. A configured Event oversees all the Bridges within the Qntrl account, triggering pre-defined actions when the event occurs for any of the Bridges.

For example, if your Bridge goes down, you can configure an email alert through Events. When a downtime event happens, email alerts are sent to the designated points of contact (PoCs) or directly responsible individuals (DRIs), prompting necessary actions.
Events are optional and additional configuration, that is, if no Events are configured, the Bridge will continue to operate as expected without any changes to its functionality.     

The following events are available:
    • Bridge DownMonitors a Bridge agent and triggers the configured action when the Bridge is experiencing downtime or is not operational, which signifies an interruption in the normal functioning of the Bridge server.
    • Bridge Up:  Listens to an inactive Bridge agent, when it is up and is available for use, initiates the configured action to notify that the Bridge agent is functioning as intended and ready for use.
    • Bridge RegisteredAfter installing and registering a Bridge agent, initiate the relevant action that confirms the successful completion of the necessary configurations.
    • Bridge DeletedThis event monitors the existence of a Bridge, and when a user deletes a Bridge through the user interface (UI), the specified actions are activated.
The potential configurations for the aforementioned events include the following actions:
    • Alert: Sends an email notification to the designated user upon the occurrence of the specified event. Users can either utilize an already configured email template or create a new one.
    • WebhookTriggers an API request when the specified events occurs. Users have the flexibility to employ an existing Webhook or set up a new one according to their preferences.
By choosing from these actions, you can customize the response to each event according to your needs.

Events is an optional feature for additional configuration, and it doesn't impact the core functionality of the Bridge. If no Events are configured, the Bridge will continue to operate as expected without any changes to its functionality.      

Configure Events

To associate an Action to an Event:

  1. Click the settings gear icon at the top right of the header bar.

  2. Navigate to Advanced >> Bridge, and choose Events.

  3. Select the event from the available options.

    • Bridge Down

    • Bridge Up

    • Bridge Registered

    • Bridge Deleted

      

  1. In Action Type, click the dropdown and select an action.

    1. Alert: If you select 'Alert' as the Action Type:

      1. In the 'Alert' field, to use an existing configured alert, click and select from the dropdown.

        OR
      1. To create a new alert, click Create NewIn the New Email window, provide the following details:
        1. Name: Enter a name for the email

        2. Email template: Select an email template from the dropdown list.

        3. Notify to: choose the designated person from the dropdown list.

        4. Add Cc and Bcc fields if required

        5. Click Save, a new email template will be created

    1. Webhook - Similarly for the webhook Action Type:      

      1. To use an already configured Webhook, click and select from the dropdown.

      2. To create a New Webhook, click Create New and refer to the Webhook section for webhook configuration.

      3. Click Add, a new Webhook will be created.

      

  1. Click Save.     

 Edit Events 

  To modify a configured Event:

  1. Navigate to  (settings) >> Advanced >> Bridge >> Select Events.

  2. On the loaded list page, click on the name of the event you want to edit.

  3. You can now make changes to the Event's Name and the configured Action.

  4. After making the desired modifications, click on Save.
