Adding a message handler to a device model
A message handler can be configured in a device model as a custom function. This ensures that every device instance derived from that specific model will automatically include the message handler.
To add a message handler to a device model,
- Access the Developer Application.
- Click Devices in the left pane.
- Click on the name of the device model for which you want to add the message handler. For this illustration, the device model Home Gateway is selected.
- Scroll down on the left pane of the device model's information page and select Message Handler.
- Click Configure Message Handler.
- Click Associate Custom Function.
- Click Add Custom Function.
- Provide the required values in the appropriate fields. For this illustration, a message handler called "Temperature Delta" is created.
Learn more about configuring fields for a message handler. - Click Save & Associate. This will open the deluge code builder.
- Provide the required code.
- Click Save and Associate to save the code to the custom function and exit.
- Click Save.
A message handler has been successfully created and associated with the selected device model. All the instances derived based on this model will have the same message handler configured for them, and the custom function will be executed every time a payload is received.
