Communicating via Threads in Channels in Trident (macOS)

In this article we'll learn how you can communicate with ease using threads.

Replying in Threads

In Cliq channels, if the admin has enabled it, you can reply in threads. To reply in a thread:

  1. Hover over the message and click the Reply in Thread  icon.
  2. Type your message and hit the return key to send it. 
  3. To continue replying in the thread, click the Reply button under the threaded conversation. 

Following Threads

To follow a threaded conversation, click Follow on the parent message. 


Alternatively, to follow a threaded conversation that you've popped out and opened in a separate chat box:
  1. Click the More Options  icon on the chatbox header.
  2. Select Follow Thread from the menu list

Notes:

You'll automatically start following a thread when you:

  • Are @mentioned. 
  • Reply to a message in threads.

Auto-Following Threads

To auto-follow all of the threaded conversations in a channel, irrespective of whether you send a thread reply or are @mentioned:

  1. Click the Thread  icon on the chatbox header.
  2. Click the Settings  icon.
  3. Toggle on the Auto Follow option. 

Unfollowing Threads

To unfollow a threaded conversation, click Unfollow on the parent message. 


Alternatively, to unfollow a threaded conversation that you've popped out and opened in a separate chatbox:

  1. Click the More Options  icon on the chatbox header. 
  2. Select Unfollow Thread from the menu list

Furthermore, to unfollow threads from the chat launcher tab:
  1. Right-click the threaded conversation.
  2. Select Unfollow Thread from the menu list

Adding Thread Followers

To add a channel participant as a thread follower:

  1. Pop out the threaded conversation in a separate chatbox.
  2. Click the thread's profile image.
  3. In the pop-up that opens, click the Add followers   icon.
  4. Type the user's name in the text box or select the user from the suggestions that appear.
  5. Click the Tick   icon. 

Alternatively, you can also:

  1. Pop out the threaded conversation in a separate chatbox.
  2. Type the + icon followed by the user's name in the text box.   
  3. Hit return


You can also add followers to a thread from the More Options


NotesNote: You can only add channel participants as thread followers. 

Removing Thread Followers

To remove a channel participant as a thread follower:

  1. Pop out the thread in a separate chatbox.
  2. Click the thread's profile image
  3. In the pop-up that opens, hover over the user's tile whom you want to remove from the group. 
  4. Click the More Options  icon.
  5. Select Remove.

Closing Threads

To close a threaded conversation:

  1. Hover over the parent thread and click the More Options  icon.
  2. Select Close Thread from the menu list
  3. Click Close Thread in the alert dialog box that appears.

Alternatively, to close a threaded conversation that you've popped out and opened in a separate chatbox:

  1. Click the More Options  icon on the chatbox header.
  2. Select Close Thread from the menu list
  3. Click Close Thread in the alert dialog box that appears. 

Notes

Note: The closed thread can be reopened later by any channel participant.

Reopening Closed Threads

To reopen a closed thread: 

  1. Hover over the parent thread and click the More Options  icon.
  2. Select Reopen Thread from the menu list

Alternatively, to reopen a closed thread that you've popped out and opened in a separate chatbox:

  1. Click the More Options  icon on the chatbox header.

  2. Select Reopen Thread from the menu list.

You can also click the Reopen option at the bottom of the chatbox.


Viewing All the Threads in a Channel

You can view all of the threads in a channel by clicking the Thread  icon on the chatbox header. This will open a dialog in which the threads you're following and those you are not will be listed separately under two tabs. 

Showing or Hiding Closed Threads

You can choose to show or hide the closed threads listed in the Following and Non-Following tabs. By default, the closed threads will be listed. To show/hide them from the list:

  1. Click the Settings  icon.
  2. Toggle on/off the Show Closed Threads option. 

Popping Out Threads in a Separate Chatbox

To pop out and open threads in a separate chatbox:

  1. Hover over the parent thread and click the More Options  icon.
  2. Select Pop Out Thread from the menu list

Alternatively, you can also click open the thread replies inline by clicking on Replies under the parent message.


Notes
Note: To navigate back to the parent message posted in the channel, you can click the Open Parent Thread  icon by hovering over the parent message that you're viewing in the separate chatbox. 


Listing Threaded Conversations

There are three ways to list threaded conversations. You can customize this from Settings

Inline with parent chats 

Note: Threads will not be listed separately in the chat launcher tab and must be accessed from within the parent channel.

Listed in a separate chat tab

Listed separately in recent chats
