Importing datapoint templates in the end application

Importing datapoint templates in the end application

Datapoint templates can be directly imported into a Device, Asset, or Location instance within the end application. Once imported, the datapoint template is added as a datapoint to the specific instance and also included as a template in the model on which the device instance is based. This also ensures that all other instances created from that model will automatically include the newly added datapoint.

Only Realtime Datapoints without any computation are available in datapoint groups and can be imported. If you need to add a datapoint template with computation or a scheduled KPI datapoint template you must add a custom datapoint template to the instance or add a custom datapoint template to the corresponding model.

To import a datapoint template in the End Application,
If you were redirected from the onboarding assistant skip to step 7
If you were redirected while adding a datapoint template in the end application, skip to step 6
  1. Access the End Application.
  2. Select Devices > Devices in the left pane. You can select Assets to add a datapoint template to an asset or Location to add a datapoint template to a location.

  3. Click the name of the instance for which you want to import the datapoint. For this illustration, the device: My RPi is considered.

  4. Click Actions > Datapoint Configurations.

  5. Click on Add Datapoint.

  6. Select Import from Datapoint Group and click Proceed.

  7. Click Add New Datapoint Group. This action is necessary if the datapoint group you need is not already imported. Once imported, it will remain available for all models in the application, unless the datapoint group is removed. This step is not required if you have already imported datapoint groups into the application. Skip to step 10.

Note: If the datapoint group you need is unavailable, or if you require a custom datapoint template for your specific use case, you can create your own datapoint group with the necessary templates and then import them.

  8. Choose Import From Gallery and click Next.

  9. Select the datapoint group you want to import. For this illustration, Environmental Monitoring datapoint group is selected.

  10. Select the datapoint group (eg., Environmental Monitoring) from which you want to import the datapoint.

  11. Select the datapoint(s) you want to import and click Import. For this illustration, datapoint templates Temperature, Humidity, and CO2 are selected.

The datapoint(s) will now be added to your selected instance and as datapoint template to it's corresponding model.
Note: If the datapoint you need is not available in the existing groups, you can create your own custom datapoint group, add the required datapoint template, and then import it into the product.
