Exploring Zoho Vault eWidget in Trident for macOS

Zoho Vault is a password manager app that generates strong passwords for your accounts and safely remembers them for you. In this article, we'll see how the Zoho Vault eWidget in Trident enables you to view and manage all of your passwords securely.

Note: The Zoho Vault eWidget in Trident includes essential features, while the web version and browser extension give you the complete experience.

 Configuring Zoho Vault eWidget 

To configure Zoho Vault with Trident, you first need a Zoho Vault account. Learn how to create one. If you are an existing user, you can configure Zoho Vault with Trident as mentioned below:

  1. Open the Widget Panel in Trident by clicking the Widget  icon at the top-right corner.

  2. Add the Zoho Vault eWidget by clicking the Plus  icon next to it.

  3. In the widget view, click Enable Now.

  4. You’ll be redirected to the Zoho Mail web app. Enable Zoho Vault in the top-right corner, then return to Trident.

  5. Click Refresh in the Zoho Vault widget pane.


Alternatively, you can also:

  1. Log in to your Zoho Mail web account.

  2. Click the Toggle eWidget  icon in the right pane.

  3. Search for Zoho Vault and click it open.

  4. Toggle on the Enable button.

  5. Go back to Trident and click Refresh in the Zoho Vault widget pane.

  6. Login using your master password.


 Accessing into Zoho Vault eWidget 

Once you add the widget to the widget panel, enter your Zoho Vault master password to access it.


To keep your data safe, the widget locks itself after a period of inactivity, and you'll need to enter the master password again to unlock it.

 Using Zoho Vault eWidget 

The Zoho Vault eWidget home page includes the following sections:

  • All Passwords: Shows all passwords stored in your vault, including personal passwords, shared passwords, enterprise passwords, and more.

  • Folders: Lists all folders you’ve created or that have been shared with you.

  • Add Password: Lets you create and save a new password in the vault.

 Viewing All Passwords 

All passwords stored in Zoho Vault are listed under the All Passwords section. Clicking on a password will display details, such as username, password, URL, and notes.

In this section, you can:

  • Add a password

  • Search for passwords

  • Filter passwords

  • Mark a password as a favorite

  • Edit password

  • Share password

Notes

Note: You can only share or edit passwords that you’ve created.

 Adding a Password 

To add a password in the All Passwords section:

  1. Click the + icon next to All Passwords.

  2. Enter the password name and select a category. The form will change based on the selected category.

  3. Fill in the rest of the details based on the category.

  4. Click Save.


 Searching for Passwords 

To search for a password, type the keyword into the search bar below All Passwords and press Enter. Matching results will be displayed instantly.


 Filtering Passwords 

You can filter your stored passwords by favorites, recently added records, most used passwords, shared passwords, or personal or enterprise passwords.

To apply a filter:

  1. Click the Show dropdown below the search bar.

  2. Select the required filter from the list.


 Marking a Password as Favorite 

To mark a password as a favorite, click the Star  icon next to it.


Notes

Note: All passwords marked as favorites can be viewed by selecting the Favorites filter from the drop-down menu.

 Editing Passwords 

To edit a password you’ve created:

  1. Hover over the password entry and click the Edit  icon next to it.

  2. Update the password details as needed.

  3. Click Save.


Notes

Note: You can only edit passwords that you’ve created or have the permission to edit.  

 Sharing Passwords    

To share a password you’ve created:

  1. Hover over the password entry and click the Share icon next to it.

  2. Select Share with Users or Share with User Groups.

  3. In the left pane, search for and select the user or group you want to share the password with.

  4. In the right pane, you’ll see the permission types.

  5. Next to each permission type, you’ll find right and left arrow icons.

  6. Click the right arrow next to a permission to assign the selected user or group to that permission.

  7. If you want to remove them from a permission, click the left arrow to move them back to the left pane.

  8. Once permissions are set, click Share.

Notes:

  • There are three permission types: View, Modify, and Manage.

  • Use the search icon in any header to find users or groups in that category.

 Log in to Web Apps With Saved Passwords 

To log in to web applications using your saved passwords, hover over the entry and click the Auto Login icon. If you’re already logged in to the website, you’ll be signed in automatically. If not, you’ll be redirected to the site where you can enter your credentials.

Notes

Note: You can add the Zoho Vault browser extension to auto-fill your credentials.

 Viewing Folders 

In this section, you can view all the folders you’ve created from the Zoho Vault web app and that have been shared with you. Clicking on a folder will display the passwords saved in it.


Within a folder, you can:

  • Mark a password as favorite

  • Edit a password

  • Auto-login

 Adding Passwords 

You can quickly add passwords from the home screen. To do this:

  1. Click Add Password.

  2. Enter the password name and select a category. The form will change based on the selected category.

  3. Add a description and choose whether it’s a personal or enterprise password.

  4. Fill in the rest of the details based on the category.

  5. Click Save.
