Differences between FUSE and Apple File Provider Extension (FPE) modes

Please take note of the significant changes between FUSE mode and FPE mode:

Changes in user experience

Overlay icons have been refreshed to align with other system icons.
Files are accessed in a different location, controlled by macOS.

In FPE mode, the WorkDrive TrueSync folder is now located at ~/Library/CloudStorage/
In FUSE mode, it was at Volumes/instance0_ZWD

WorkDrive TrueSync is now available under Locations in Finder. If removed from the Finder sidebar, it can be re-added in Finder preferences.

Drag and drop behavior changes

When dragging and dropping files or folders from a user's local drive into TrueSync, they will now be moved instead of copied. Similarly, items dragged and dropped from the WorkDrive TrueSync folder to the user’s local drive will be moved instead of copied, resulting in deletion from WorkDrive TrueSync.

Performance-related changes

Sync performance is regulated by macOS and may slow down to preserve battery life under conditions like low battery, unplugged state, or high system temperature.
Downloaded and locally created files remain accessible even when WorkDrive TrueSync is not running.
Caching is limited by available disk space, and unpinned files are automatically removed by the OS to free up space.

Limitations

Custom location
Mounting a WorkDrive TrueSync virtual space into a custom location is not possible in FPE mode, as custom location capabilities are no longer supported on Apple macOS devices configured using the FPE mode of WorkDrive TrueSync (Version 3.8.0 (Beta) or later).
File search
Spotlight search might not retrieve the expected files and folders because it searches only a subset of your Drive corpus, including downloaded files. For a comprehensive search across your entire Drive corpus, utilize the in-app search tool or search using the WorkDrive web application.
Finder app-related issues
Users may encounter TrueSync application slowness or observe missing overlay icons for files and folders. These issues are associated with FPE and can be resolved by relaunching the Finder application, which can address errors related to file provider icons and other Finder-related issues.
Maximum path length limit
The file or folder path length limit is 256 characters.
