Zoho Writer Desktop App: FAQ

FAQ: Zoho Writer Desktop App

General

Yes. The app itself is free to download and use. You only need a Zoho account if you want to sync, store, and share files in the cloud.

The desktop app works offline, opens documents faster, and supports tabbed/multi-page views. The web version requires the internet but integrates directly with Zoho’s online services.

Using Documents

Q7. Which file formats does the app support?

  1. Opens & edits: .docx
  2. Exports to: .docx, .pdf, .odt, .html, .txt

Q8. Can I use templates?

Yes. Writer offers a collection of templates (resumes, letters, reports, etc.) accessible within the app.

Q9. Does it support track changes and comments?

Yes. Track changes, review modes, and threaded comments are available just like in the web version.

Q10. Can I open multiple documents at once?

Yes. The desktop app supports tabbed view for multiple documents.

Offline & Cloud Sync

Q11. Can I work offline?

Yes. You can create, edit, and save documents offline. When you reconnect to the internet, synced documents update automatically.

Q12. Where are my offline documents stored?

Offline documents are saved locally on your computer. If you want them on the cloud, you must save or sync them manually. To Login to the cloud, click the Zoho Cloud tab and sign in using your Zoho credentials or create a new account and sign in.

Q13. How do I sync documents with the cloud?

  1. Sign in with your Zoho account and save the file to Zoho WorkDrive or Writer Cloud. The app will then sync your documents automatically whenever you’re online.
  2. If you created or imported documents in the Writer app before signing in, those files were stored temporarily on your device inside the app. Once you sign in, Writer automatically syncs them to your Zoho account, ensuring they’re secure and accessible from anywhere.
  3. If you sign out, your dashboard may look empty, this is because your documents are now linked to your Zoho account rather than the app’s internal storage.

Q14. Can I share documents directly from the app?

Yes, you can share the documents only if they are on cloud. So, ensure that you’re signed in and save the document on cloud. You can share via link, set view/edit permissions, and collaborate in real-time.
