Creating Agents

A Zia Agent is an AI-powered smart assistant designed to understand natural language and provide real-time helpful responses. It can perform tasks by accessing external APIs (referred to as Tools) and retrieving information from internal documents through a connected Knowledge Base.
Agent Studio is the platform where you can create your own agents for each of the roles that you need to automate.
Pre-requisites
Before you create a Zia Agent, make sure you have the following details:
- Instructions – steps the agent should follow while responding
- Tools – APIs or actions the agent can execute
- Knowledge base – documents or reference material for context
- Connections – authenticated access to services like Zoho CRM, Zoho Desk, etc.
Best Practices
- Write elaborate instructions for agents—the longer, the better.
- Be very specific about action items and expected results, in both instruction and prompt.
- Include a comprehensive list of restrictions in the instructions you provide to the agent.
- Be mindful of the test configuration—changes made through this will be reflected in your connected service.
- Use the agent's test window extensively; iterate on the instruction set using the test outputs until they're acceptable and reliable.
- Understand precisely which tools your agent will need access to for the tasks it must complete; provide access only to these tools and no others.
- When using predefined tool groups, go through their descriptions thoroughly to understand the extent and scope of the agency you're granting the agent.
- Use custom tool groups where possible so you can personally define and be fully aware of the actions you're enabling your agent to perform.
- Provide relevant knowledge in the knowledge base.
- Make regular backups of your data, especially if you plan to give any of your agents write, update, or delete access.
- Deploy an untested agent.
- Give an agent access to more tools than its use case merits.
- Deploy an agent without sufficient knowledge base.
- Use vague instructions.
- Give an agent edit access to data without rigorous testing and restrictions.
- Add non-relevant information to the knowledge base.

Create from scratch
If you want to create agents on your own or prefer learning to build one, you can choose Create from Scratch and start creating agents. This involves four major steps.
In this section, you can define your agents as to how you want it to work, respond, and behave.
- Enter Agent Name: Name the agent based on its purpose, role, and personality. Make sure it’s searchable and not too generic.
- Agent Description: Describe the agent for the users to understand the purpose of the agent and decide on whether to use it for their case.
- Model: Choose the LLM that has to be used by the agent as its generative AI model, based on the task type and latency.
- Agent Resource Role: Enter the role or responsibility that the AI agent will function on and fulfill within your broad system. Example: Customer Insights Analyst.
- Agent Instruction: Guide the agent with all of the instructions, including detailed guidelines in accordance with your desired custom solution. Educate the model on the agent's guidelines and restrictions. Instruct its daily tasks and define its expertise area, expected behavior, and responsibilities of the agent.
- Click Continue.
To take control of how your agent thinks, behaves, and interacts, your agent needs a knowledge base as the study material.
- Select all of the documents that are required for the agent to understand its purpose and act accordingly.
- Click Continue.
To take control of what specific actions you want your agent to make, your agent needs the corresponding API tools.
- From the list of tools that was created, select all of the tools that will be relevant to the agent's actions for its role.
- Click Continue.
You can enable the default guardrails of your choice to define the agent's identity and core information.
- Fairness & Bias: Monitors and reduces potential biases towards the agent user
- Toxicity check: Monitors and prevents toxic and harmful content and potential biases in the responses
Once you've set all of these, simply click Create, and the agent is created. You will land on the agents details page in the Agents section.
Create with Zia AI
If you want an automatic creation of an agent, the built-in AI assistant auto-fills all of the above steps and creates an agent in a single click.
Steps to create with Zia
Draft a prompt asking the AI assistant to create an agent for your specific requirements.
You can also use Quick Prompts that quickly gives you a short prompt for the specific role you choose from the options. You can expand the prompt based on your custom needs.
Click Generate.
Provide more specific details about the tasks and responsibilities that the agent should take up and work on. Specify the documents that the AI Assistant should consider as a knowledge base and mention the tools.
Note: The Assistant can also upload relevant documents and tools on its own if you're not sure which ones are relevant or if they’re not specified.
- Answer any question that the Assistant wants to clarify, and click Generate.
The right panel displays the auto-filled details of the agent. Your agent is now ready to be created. - Carefully check for relevancy and accuracy of all the information about the agent. Use the Edit option to make any necessary modifications, including Knowledge and Tools.
- Once you're sure of the complete agent profile, click Create Agent.
