How do I change the MFA number?

Note:
To change MFA number, you need to be signed in to your account. If you're locked out of your account:
- Contact your administrator to reset MFA in case you're an organization user.
- Contact support@zohoaccounts.com in case you're not part of any organization.
Change existing MFA number
You may want to change your existing MFA number in the following scenarios:
- You no longer use your existing MFA number and want to switch to a new number.
- You have moved to a new location where your existing MFA number is not working.
- You have lost access to your existing MFA number and want to add a new number
Note: For
users who registered after January 1, 2024, SMS-based OTP won't be
provided as an MFA option. This is due to the susceptibilty of SMS-based
OTP to various security threats like phishing, SS7 and SIM swapping
attacks.Steps to change existing MFA number
- Sign in at accounts.zoho.com.
- Click Multi-Factor Authentication in the left menu.
- Under SMS-based OTP , hover over the existing MFA number and click
. If you have multiple MFA numbers, click View more numbers, then hover over the MFA number that you want to delete and click
.
- In the confirmation pop-up, click Confirm.
- Click Set up Now or Add Number under SMS-based OTP.
- If you want to add a new number as your MFA number:
- Enter the mobile number, then click Next. An OTP will be sent to the entered mobile number.
- Enter the OTP received, then click Verify.
If you want to add an existing number (e.g., primary/recovery number) as your MFA number:
Click Choose from already added numbers.
Select the mobile number that you want to set as your new MFA number.
Click Add.
Note: The recovery and MFA number cannot be the same. If you set your recovery mobile number as the MFA number, it can no longer be used for recovery.
Change preferred MFA number
If you have added multiple MFA numbers, you can set one as your preferred MFA number. You will be asked to verify yourself using your preferred MFA number during the sign in. However, if you want to use any of your secondary MFA numbers for verification, click Problem signing in? and select the required number.
- Click Multi-Factor Authentication in the left menu.
- Under SMS-based OTP , click View more numbers.
- Hover over the mobile number that you want to set as your preferred MFA number and click Set as Preferred Number.
- Click Confirm.
Change your recovery number to an MFA number
- Sign in at accounts.zoho.com.
- In the left menu, click Profile, then click Mobile Numbers.
- Under My Mobile Numbers, hover over the recovery number that you want to set as an MFA number and click
.
- Select MFA Mobile Number.
- Click Confirm.
