Overview
SSIDs or Service Set Identifiers are names assigned to a network when a Wi-Fi router is set up, for example, My Wi-Fi, Home, Railway station Wi-Fi, Hotel reception, Pitstop, among others. The router uses this SSID to broadcast its network within its vicinity. We then use this SSID name to identify and connect to the network we want.
In an office environment, an admin can have access control over who uses what network by restricting a group of users to a particular Wi-Fi network. For example, employees working at the reception desk would be expected to connect to the Reception Wi-Fi while the Sys Admin and team would connect to the Pitstop Wi-Fi. Certain RADIUS servers can identify the access point that's transmitting an authentication request and whether or not the user is allowed to connect to the network at all. This could be an effective addition to network access policies and provides a certain level of identity assurance.
