Create a Sandbox
Admins can create a
sandbox portal from Zoho Projects portal to test and deploy configurations.

- Click
in the upper-right corner of the top navigation bar.
- Navigate to Sandbox and click Create New Sandbox.
- Enter a name for the sandbox and add a description for the sandbox if needed.
- Access URL will be automatically populated based on the sandbox name. You can modify it if needed.
- Select the users to be added to the Sandbox portal. Once added, an email invitation will be sent to the users, along with the sandbox URL for easy access.
Portal Owners and Admins are added to the Sandbox portal by default.- Click Create.
- Wait a few minutes for your Sandbox portal to be created. Once the portal is ready, click Go to Sandbox on the prompted screen.
You will be redirected to the Sandbox portal, which resembles your production portal.
You can differentiate the production and Sandbox portals by the Sandbox tag in the top navigation bar of the Sandbox portal.
Add Developers to Sandbox
Developers in the Sandbox are users who are granted access only to the Sandbox portal and not the production portal. This allows you to add testers securely and developers to test, validate, and fine-tune changes without compromising the production portal.
Use case
An admin needs an external developer to configure and test custom modules and automation. Instead of giving access to the production portal with live data, the admin can the user as a Sandbox Developer. The developer can test changes safely in Sandbox, while production access and deployment control remain restricted to admins.
- User license purchase is not required to add developers.
- Only the Portal Owner and Admins can add developers to the Sandbox portal.
- You can add up to 10 developers to a single Sandbox portal.
- An invite email with the Sandbox URL will be sent to each developer for access.
- When a role or profile you want to assign is unavailable in the Sandbox, the default role (Employee) and profile (Employee) will be assigned automatically. You can select other roles and profiles if required.
- Click
in the upper-right corner of the top navigation bar.
- Navigate to Sandbox.
- Click the drop-down right next to the Create New Sandbox, click Add Developers.
- Alternatively, in the Sandbox List tab, click
under Developers for the respective sandbox.
- Enter the developer’s email address, and choose their Role and Profile.
- They can be added with any role or profile except client.
- Click Done.

- From the Sandbox List tab, click the sandbox name to open the Sandbox portal.
- Navigate to the Sandbox Developers tab and click Add Developer.
- Enter the developer’s email address, and choose their Role and Profile.
- Click Done.
The developer will receive an email invitation with the Sandbox URL for easy access to the portal.
