How to setup image type merge field in Zoho Writer

Overview

The Image Field Merge feature in Zoho Writer lets you dynamically insert images (like profile photos, product images, logos, or scanned documents) into templates during a mail merge. You can map image fields from your data source—such as Zoho CRM, Zoho Sheets, or a CSV file—and the corresponding images will be placed automatically in the final merged documents.

Steps

Click on the image field, you will see a panel named Image Field Options on the left side.

Set Image Properties

Dimensions : Specify the width and height of the image
Alt Text (Optional) : Add alternative text for accessibility or fallback purposes.
Image Border : border thickness , color and type
Wrap Type :

Wrap Type	Description
Inline	The image is treated like a text character. It moves with the text.
Square	Text wraps around all four sides of the image in a square shape.
Behind Text	The image sits behind the text—great for watermarks or background images.
In Front of Text	The image floats above the text and may obscure it.

Set Image Fit

Controls how the image fills the allocated space.

Fit to Frame – The image scales to fit within the placeholder while maintaining its aspect ratio.
Fill Frame – The image fills the entire frame and may crop if the aspect ratio differs.
Stretch to Fill – The image stretches to fill the placeholder exactly, which may distort the image.

Set Placeholder image

All templates might require a different placeholder image depending on the type of the document you create. With Writer, image fields can now have a custom placeholder image.

Click on the image field, you will see a panel named Image Field Options on the left side.

At the bottom of the panel, under Others, you can change the placeholder image to suit your requirements.

Troubleshooting

Problem :My image merge field appears stretched and doesn't retain the correct size in the merged document.
Solution : Cick on the image merge field, on the left pane options "Choose Image Fit" to set "Fit image to the frame" option.
