Designing an NFC card

Designing an NFC card

Designing an NFC card in
Zoho TouchPoint is about creating a clear, recognizable, and purpose-driven digital entry point for anyone who taps or scans it.

An NFC card can be used for multiple business objectives, such as:

  • Sharing and exchanging contacts

  • Collecting leads through a form

  • Driving users to a website or landing page

  • Encouraging reviews on third-party platforms

  • Enabling app downloads

  • Booking appointments

  • Running surveys or campaigns

This document explains how to design your NFC card so it visually aligns with your brand and supports any destination you choose to associate with it.

Before You Start

To begin designing your NFC card, you must:

  • Select one of the pre-designed card templates, or

  • Upload a custom card design

Once selected, you can customize both the front and back of the card.

Designing the Front Side of the NFC Card

The front side of your NFC card is the visual identity layer. It helps users immediately recognize:

  • Who the card belongs to

  • Which brand or organization does it represent

  • The context in which the card is being used

1. Add Primary Identification Text

Start by adding key identifying text, such as:

  • Individual name or team name

  • Business name or department

  • Role, campaign title, or purpose (e.g., “Support”, “Sales”, “Feedback”, “Download our App”)

You can:

  • Choose from multiple font styles

  • Adjust font size for readability

  • Position the text anywhere on the card

This ensures clarity regardless of whether the card is used for networking, marketing, or operations.

2. Upload and Place Your Brand Logo

Branding plays a critical role across all NFC card use cases.

To add your logo:

  • Click Upload Logo on the top-left of the design panel (beside the canvas)

  • Choose the logo from the Files section

  • Drag and drop it onto the canvas

  • Resize and reposition it as needed

A well-placed logo helps users instantly associate the tap or scan action with your brand, whether the destination is a form, app store, or review page.

3. Add Supporting Elements (Text & Icons)

Under the Elements section in the left panel, you can add visual cues that reinforce the card’s purpose.

Add Additional Text

Use text elements to:

  • Provide short instructions (e.g., “Tap to submit feedback”)

  • Highlight the outcome (e.g., “Scan to book an appointment”)

Steps:
  • Click Text

  • Drag and drop it onto the canvas

  • Adjust color for contrast with the background

  • Resize and position appropriately

Add Icons

Icons can help visually communicate intent, especially in business or public-facing use cases.

You can add icons based on:

  • The action (form, review, download, message)

  • The service or product

  • The destination linked to the NFC card

To add icons:

  • Drag and drop the Icons element

  • Select an icon

  • Adjust size, color, and placement using the Styles option

Designing the Back Side of the NFC Card (QR Code)

The back side of the NFC card contains a QR code that serves as:

  • An alternate access method

  • A printable or shareable version of the same destination

  • A fallback for devices without NFC support

1. Switch to Card Back

  • Click Card Back in the top-left section of the screen

  • The Design QR option will appear in the left panel

2. Select a QR Template

Under QR Templates, you’ll find multiple professionally designed QR styles.

  • Choose a template that aligns with your brand identity

  • You can proceed with the template as-is or customize it further

Once, that is done, you can then focus on the back side of the card and work on the QR code to make it more aesthetic and consistent with the brand colors and designs.

3. Customize the QR Code

Click Personalize to fine-tune the QR code’s appearance while ensuring scan reliability.

Patterns

Patterns are the core data modules of the QR code that store the destination information.

  • You can choose from multiple pattern styles

  • Select patterns that are visually clean and brand-consistent

  • Avoid overly complex styles that may affect scan accuracy

Eyes (Finder Scanners)

Eyes (finder scanners) help scanning devices detect the QR code quickly.

  • Located at the corners of the QR code

  • Choose eye styles that visually complement the selected pattern

  • Maintain sufficient contrast for reliable scanning

Colors

Colors enhance visibility and reinforce brand identity.

  • Click Colors to customize QR foreground and background colors

  • Maintain strong contrast between the QR pattern and background

Quiet Zone Reminder:

The empty space around the QR code is called the quiet zone.
It is essential for accurate scanning. Ensure the background color does not interfere with this space.

Logo

You can place your brand logo at the center of the QR code.

  • Click Logo

  • Upload your logo

  • Ensure it does not obscure key QR elements or reduce scan reliability

Final Step: Save or Associate a Destination

Once your NFC card design is complete, you can:

  • Associate a destination immediately (form, website, app, review page, etc.), or

  • Save the design and complete destination setup later

The same card design can be reused with different destinations depending on your use case.

NFC Card Design Best Practices

1. Safe Zone & Layout

  • Keep all text, logos, and QR codes at least 5mm inside the card edges.

2. Color & Background

  • Avoid dark backgrounds with black text. Choose high contrast.

3. Logo & Typography

  • Upload vector (SVG) or high-res PNG logos only.

  • Choose clean, legible fonts (min. 8pt for text).

  • Avoid overusing decorative fonts. Clarity > Creativity.

4. QR Code & NFC Symbol Placement

  • Ensure QR code is at least 2cm x 2cm for reliable scanning.

  • Leave white space around it, at least 2mm padding.

  • Include an NFC icon for card identification (optional)

5. Design Consistency

  • Use your brand colors and consistent layout across all team cards.

  • Add a logo watermark or tagline subtly for identity reinforcement.

  • Before printing, confirm alignment and edges.

  • Double-check spelling, and layout orientation.

  • Remember: what looks good on-screen may differ slightly in print due to color shift.

6. Keep It Simple

  • Minimal design = More elegant and scannable.

  • Highlight only what matters: name, title, logo, and action (tap/scan)
