In this article, we'll explore how to create various chats and use them to communicate effectively with your teammates.
You can initiate a one-on-one chat in the following ways:
To initiate one-on-one chat with contacts or organization members using Cliq search:
Navigate to the Search Bar.
Type the name of the user or their email address.
Select the user from the list of search results.
A chatbox to initiate a one-on-one chat between you and the user will open.
To initiate one-on-one chat with users :
Navigate to Users in the Cliq chat launcher tab.
Scroll to find the user with whom you want to initiate the chat.
Click on their name to open the chatbox.
To create a group chat:
Click the + icon in the app menu bar.
Select Start a Group Chat from the menu list.
Search for users to add to your group or select users from the list that appears.
Rename the group if you prefer and click Initiate Chat.
To add a new member to an existing group:
Click open the group.
Click the group's profile icon.
In the pop-up that opens, click the Add User icon.
Search for users by their name or email address in the Search Bar.
Select the user and click the Tick icon to add them.
Alternatively, you can also:
Type + in the textbox.
Type the name or email address of the person you want to add select it from the list of suggestions by hitting the return key.
Hit return again to add them to the group.
In the alert dialog box that appears, click Yes to add them, or click Create New Chat to create a new group chat with that person.
To remove a user from a group:
Click open the group.
Click the group's profile icon.
In the pop-up that opens, hover over the thumbnail of the user that you want to remove from the group.
Click the More Options icon.
Select Remove.
To leave a channel:
Click the More Options icon in the chatbox header.
Select Leave Group from the menu list.
Click Leave Group in the alert dialog box that appears.
Select Mute if you'd like to mute the group instead of leaving it.
Alternatively, you can also:
Click the group's profile icon or the participant icon.
Click the More Options icon.
Select Leave Group from the menu list.
To create a channel:
Click the Plus + icon on the app menu bar.
Select Create a Channel from the menu list.
Enter the Channel Name and Channel Description.
Upload a channel image if you prefer.
Choose the channel type and visibility.
Click Next.
Choose your preferred options regarding channel configuration and permissions.
Once the required options are selected, click Create Channel.
Notes:
If a channel is open to all users, members of the organization can find and join it anytime. If it's a closed channel, users can join only when added by an existing channel participant.
You can configure the visibility for Organization and Team channels. Personal and external channels can only be joined upon invitation.
You can add bots to your channel to automate certain tasks, send notifications, and set reminders. Learn more about the available bots to add to your Cliq channel.
In channels, the admin can decide how users reply to chats. They can either use the normal reply, threads, or both. If the reply mode is set to Threads, the threaded conversations will be listed according to what is configured in the Cliq preferences. To do so:
Click open the Reply Mode drop-down menu.
Choose between Normal Reply, Threads, or Allow Both.
What a member can do in a channel is determined by a set of parameters known as channel permissions. These permission can be customized for each channel type. The following permissions are available when creating a channel. Check all that applies for the designated user role.

7 | Send Messages | To send messages in the channel. |
8 | Reply in Thread | To reply to chats in the form of threads. |
9 | Mention Users | To use @mentions for users, @mentions for teams (org groups), and #tags for channel. |
10 | Leave Channel | To leave the channel when needed. |
11 | Host Broadcast | To broadcast the session in the channel. |
12 | Delete Messages | To delete messages in the channel. |
13 | Delete Messages Posted by Others | To restrict who can delete messages sent by others. |
14 | Edit Messages | To edit messages in the channel. |
15 | Start/Schedule Meetings | To start or schedule a meeting in the channel. |
16 | Pin Messages | To pin messages in the channel. |
17 | @all, @available Mentions | To mention all users through @all (all participants of the channel) and @available (only participants whose status is available). |
Editing Channel Information
To edit channel information:
Click the channel's profile icon or the participant icon.
Click the Edit icon.
Edit the channel details.
Click Save.
To add a new member to a channel:
Click open the channel.
Click the channel's profile icon or the participant icon.
In the pop-up that opens, click the Add User icon.
Search for users by their name or email address in the Search Bar.
Select the user and click the Tick icon to add them.
Type + in the textbox.
Type the name or email address of the person you want to add to the group.
Hit return.
Click open the channel.
Click the channel's profile icon or the participant icon.
In the pop-up that opens, hover over the user's tile whom you want to remove from the group.
Click the More Options icon.
Select Remove.
To change the level of permission given to a member:
Click open the channel.
Click the channel's profile icon or the participant icon.
In the pop-up that opens, hover over the user's tile whose permission you want to update.
Click the More Options icon.
Select the level of permission you want to assign the user.
To leave a channel:
Click the More Options icon on the chatbox header.
Select Leave Channel from the menu list.
Click Leave Channel in the alert dialog box that appears.
Select Mute Instead if you'd like to mute the channel instead of leaving it.
Alternatively, you can also:
Click the channel's profile icon or the participant icon.
Click the More Options icon.
Select Leave Channel from the menu list.
Click the channel's profile icon or the participant icon.
Click the More Options icon.
Select Delete from the menu list.
In the alert that appears, click Delete Channel.
Notes:
You can't recover deleted channels.
You can archive channels to hide them from the chat list. The channel will be unarchived when you search for it.
You can clear all the messages in a channel instead of deleting a channel.
In the chat launcher tab, you can view the list of all channels you've created and are a part of. Here, you can sort channels based on channel types, recent messages, and unread chats.
Most Recent: The most recently active channels are grouped according to their channel type.
