When composing or replying to an email, you can change the "From" address directly in the Mail Composer. This lets you choose which email address to send the message from, helping you maintain the right context for your conversations.
For instance, if you’ve switched to a new email address but some contacts are still messaging your old one, you can reply using your new address by changing the “From” field. This way, your contacts will see and take note of your updated email, while you keep all communication organized within your new inbox.
In Trident, you can compose, reply to, and forward emails by changing the “From” address between addresses within a primary account or between primary and secondary accounts as well.
To change the 'From' address between the associated email addresses of a single account:
Open the Mail Composer by clicking New Mail or replying to an existing email.
Click the current email address in the From field to open the drop-down menu listing all your email addresses.
Select the email address you want to send the message from.
Continue composing your message and click Send.
To change the 'From' address between the associated email addresses of multiple accounts:
Open the Mail Composer by clicking New Mail or replying to an existing email.
Click the current email address in the From field to open the drop-down menu listing all of your logged-in email accounts (primary, secondary, external, and delegated).
Select the email address you want to send the message from.
In the alert that appears, click Switch.
Continue composing your message and click Send.
Notes:
By default, the selected email account in the folder pane will be listed in the "From" field of the Mail Composer.
While replying to an email, you can switch the "From" address from a delegated account only to its associated primary account that has access, not to other secondary or external (IMAP/POP) accounts.
While switching the "From" address between different email accounts in the Mail Composer, you won't be asked to sign out and sign in.
While switching the "From" address, some aspects of your email will be impacted, such as:
Feature | Impact |
SecurePass | Will be removed when the selected “From” address is an external account (IMAP/POP) |
Huge attachments (more than 40 MB) | Will be removed and must be uploaded again |
Attachments and inline images (less than 40 MB) | Will be retained in the Mail Composer |
Signatures | Replaced with the signature corresponding to the selected “From” address |
Drafts | Will be saved in the selected “From” address |
Outbox delay | Applied based on the “From” address |
Undo interval | Applied based on the “From” address |
Contact suggestions | Suggested based on the “From” address |
