How to combine MS Word Revisions with the Original Zoho Writer Document

How to combine MS Word Revisions with the original Zoho Writer document

Overview

If you collaborate with someone who doesn't use Zoho Writer, you can still incorporate their changes into your original document using the Combine Revisions feature. The Combine Revisions feature works DOCX files, and will merge two documents to create a new one that contains all the changes from both. You can also choose to add the changes to your current document. Once documents are combined, all edits and changes will be highlighted and marked up, so you can delete or accept them as needed.

Instead of manually consolidating every edit and comment, you can seamlessly merge a modified Word file with its parent Zoho Writer document. This powerful feature allows you to review, accept, or reject all changes, comments, and tracked edits in one consolidated version, streamlining your team's review process and ensuring a single, up-to-date source of truth.

Prerequisites

  1. Original Document: A Zoho Writer document with Track Changes enabled.
  2. Modified MS Word File: A collaborator has edited the exported .docx copy of the above document and returned it to you

Steps

  1. Click ReviewCombine Revisions.
  2. Choose your MS Word document (.docx or .doc file) from your computer.
  3. Once imported, choose either of the combine options to proceed:
    1. Combine and create a new document: To generate a new document by merging the selected document with your existing Writer document.
    2. Combine changes to the current document: To blend changes from the selected document with your existing Writer document.

Note that in both cases, insertions and deletions will appear as markup so that you can accept or reject changes individually.

You can also tell Writer the name of the collaborator who worked on the revision. This information will be used to tag the changes and to create a unique file name for the combined document generated.
