In document formatting, widows and orphans refer to single lines of a paragraph that are left stranded at the top or bottom of a page, making the text look awkward and less readable. Zoho Writer offers a Widow/Orphan Control option that ensures at least two lines of a paragraph stay together at the top or bottom of a page. This improves readability and maintains professional document flow.
a widow refers to a single line of a paragraph that appears at the top of a page, separated from the rest of the paragraph on the previous page.
Allows you to avoid keeping a single line of the paragraph at the top or bottom of the page. Instead, you can either move two lines of the paragraph up or down or shift the entire paragraph to the next page.
This option keeps the entire paragraph as one unit on a single page. When the option is enabled, and a paragraph won’t fit at the bottom of a page, it shifts the entire paragraph to the next page.
This option inserts a page break before the selected paragraph. The result is similar to when you enter Ctrl / ⌘+Enter forcing a page break before the paragraph.
Keep lines together: You can also enable the "Keep lines together" option in the paragraph settings to ensure that all lines of a paragraph appear together on the same page or column.
