Status refers to the position of level of progress of a work item. Zoho Sprints provides you with a few standard terminologies to identify the status of your item. Assigning status and promptly moving the item to the successive status enables you to follow the progress of your work item and ensure it's completed on time. The status of items can be tracked on your board.
The available status include: To do, In progress, and Done. Each of these are associated with status types like open, in progress, and closed.
Limit work in progress items
Work in progress limits are the predefined maximum and minimum count for items in a particular status on your board. Restricting in progress items in a status to a particular number helps the sprint team to keep up with the progress in an organized way.

Custom status
You can create new status to improve the tracking process of your work items. This will expand the system to include a wider range of bench marks for items to reach.
To create custom status:
- Click the gear icon in the top-right corner to navigate to the Settings page.
- Go to Custom Status section under Project Settings.
- Click the +Status button. The create window will appear.

- Select a color to be associated with that status.
- Enter a name for the status.
- Select the relevant status type.
Every status must be associated with one of the status types: Open, In progress, and Close.- Open: To do, Yet to start, etc.
- In progress: Ongoing, Waiting for review, Fixing issues, etc.
- Closed: Done, Completed, etc.
- Click the Create button. The new status will be added to the listing page. You can associate your items to this custom status.
- Go to your board to view and update status of work items.
- You can also update in the item details page.
- You can reorder the sequence of the status. Click the Reorder icon and rearrange the status.
- You can also navigate from the board module. Select the View dropdown and click Status Settings.
Edit status
To edit default item type:
- Click the gear icon in the top-right corner to navigate to the Settings page.
- Go to Custom Status section under Project Settings.
- Click the Edit icon in the required status. The update window will appear.
- Modify the required details.
- Click the Update button. The changes will be saved.
Custom Status Percentage
Each project will have custom statuses configured. For each custom status, you can set a status progress percentage. When the item moves to a status, the item's completion % is updated. This enables the users or workspace owners to comprehend the state of the work item much quicker.
In the screenshot below, the work item status is shown as "In progress," and the left panel indicates that it is 50% complete. This provides a clear visual cue to the user that the work item is halfway done, helping them evaluate whether it can be completed within the stipulated timeframe.
For instance, you have three statuses: Open, In Progress, and Closed. In this case, the percentage completion will be automatically calculated by the system, like in the below table:

To set the status progress percentage:
- Click the gear icon in the top-right corner to navigate to the Settings page.
- Go to the Custom Status section under Project Settings.
- Select a project from the Select Project dropdown. Existing statuses will be available.
- Click Edit within the respective status component and update the existing status's progress percentage if needed.
- Click Update.
- Add new status by clicking the + icon in the horizontal line.

- Enter a percentage in the Status progress % field.
- Click Create.
Alternatively, you can create or edit status and set Status progress % from within the Board module in the project.
- Navigate to a project.
- Switch to the Board module.
All statuses will be as individual columns. - Click the
beside the status and select Create new status or Edit status.
- Enter the data in the required fields and add the Status progress %.
- Click Save or Update.
When a work item moves to a new status, the completion percentage in the visual component is automatically updated. This allows users to easily track progress and understand how close they are to completion.
Delete status
To delete status:
- Click the gear icon in the top-right corner to navigate to the Settings page.
- Go to Custom Status section under Project Settings.
- Click the Delete icon in the required status. A confirmation pop-up will appear with the request to move associated items to another status.
- Select another status and confirm. The status will be deleted and the items previously associated with it will be moved.
