New subscriber sequence... also send to current... set up for future

Hi. We have our list started and we're growing it. When we started it, we didn't have a welcome sequence in place (we just got it going). Now, I want to do the following, but I'm not sure how to set this up, even after reading through the autoresponder section in the user guide. Please advise.

1. New subscriber sequence:
When someone is added to the list (whether by form, spreadsheet upload, etc.), I want them to receive:
a. Welcome email immediately
b. Email sequence set up in advance (about 20 messages) - scheduled to be sent on Mondays through Fridays at a specific time (say, 7:00 a.m. ET)
c. continue to receive daily messages from the "regular" list (the "existing" subscribers), dropping into that list with the next day's message

2. Existing subscriber sequence:
I want the current subscribers to receive the exact same messages for this first period, with the exception of the initial welcome message (item a above).
Then, continue receiving the regular emails.

3. Future new additions:
Do the same as group 1 above, but on their schedule based on when they joined (first welcome message right away; rest of sequence at M-F morning schedule, then into the regular list recipients).

I'm struggling figuring out the best way to set this up. Here is what I'm thinking. Please let me know if this is the best way to do it or if I should change it to make it easier.

A. Set up a welcome message autoresponder
This would just be the one message sent to new members at the time they join (immediately).
After conclusion, the next action would be to move them to the "New Subscribers" list, as described next.

B. Set up a "New Subscribers" list
This will be the temporary list new subscribers go after receiving their welcome message.
Schedule the messages to be delivered M-F at a set time. (How do I do that? I can't find it anywhere.)
After conclusion, the next action would be to move the subscriber to the "regular" list.

C. The "regular" list
After finishing the new subscriber list sequence, members will automatically be moved to this list and receive new messages to this list as scheduled moving forward from that day on.

Is that correct so far?

Then, to send that message sequence to the current list, I see two options:
1. "Clone" the messages after setting them up in the New Subscribers list and then schedule that cloned message for delivery to the "regular" list.
2. Move everyone currently on the regular list to the New Subscribers list and let them cycle through it.

I think option 2 would be the easiest, right?

Finally, while the existing and new subscribers are going through that sequence, I will also need to send them a few additional messages outside of that sequence. How can I do that without setting the message to be part of that sequence? I think I would just create it like a new message and in the recipients list, just be sure I include the "New Subscribers" list in the recipients. Since it wouldn't be in the autoresponder sequence, it wouldn't be added to that for the future, but the people in that list would still receive it, correct?

Thanks for verifying this and helping me thing through it. I think I'm about 95% clear on getting there, but wanted to make sure I'm thinking on the right track with how this system is set up.

Again, thanks so much!
