Hello,
Being that many of the products I sell involve a large number of variants, I've often times found myself cursing while entering a range of new variants because of the fact that you are constantly having to click on the variant's edit button, which then causes the details of the variant to appear in a window that slides into place (which consumes time when you're trying to make fast edits), and then locate the params I intend to edit and make changes, then press Ok, which then causes the detail window to slide out of view bringing you back to the list of variants (again, taking requiring extra mouse clicks and time). I should also mention that at this point, you also have no reference marker to clearly indicate what variant you were editing, sometimes forcing you to click on two or three before you can recenter where you were in the list.
The Commerce backend would benefit from reformatting the UI in a way that is geared toward speed and efficiency, rather sliding windows in and out.
A better way of handling this that's commonly found in other UI designs is to that variant editing be reformatted into a Master/Detail arrangement, where the UI is divided into two parts... One is the Master List (e.g. the list of variants), and the other is the Detail (e.g. the specific details, image selections, SKUs). Clicking on items in the Master List updates what gets displayed in the Detail Area... immediately... no waiting for windows to slide in and out, it just immediately presents the details without hesitation.
A better explanation of this type of user interface can be found on Apple's site:
This sort of format would accomplish the same goal, but make the ability to rapidly run through several variants and perform updates (e.g. image selection or adding SKUs) much faster.
Thanks,
Bryan
