Writer is equipped with tools to give you the perfect writing experience. We've kept the menus and tools that appear minimal—so that when you're writing, it's just you, your thoughts and nothing else.
While Writer is designed to be distraction-free by default, here are some ways you can take it up a notch:
Night Mode
Love working in the dark? Then you'll love Writer's Night Mode too! It lets you continue writing while keeping it easy on the eyes. Simply click on the moon-shaped icon on the bottom right panel to experience it yourself.
Focus Typing
Lock your focus, one paragraph at a time. Focus Typing mode highlights your current paragraph and completely blurs out everything else in your document.
To enable Focus Typing mode, go to More Options > View > Focus Typing.
Typewriter sound
They say that sounds can sometimes soothe the mind, especially the one's that make you feel nostaligic. That's why we built a typewriter mode in Writer. This mode gives you the traditional typewriting sound with every letter you type, making you feel like you're actually typing on a typewriter from the good old days.
Full Screen Mode
Still distracted by everything else on your screen? Try Writer's Full Screen mode. It hides all the menus, keeping it to just the editor.
You can still format your work and access the basic tools using the smart toolbar that appears when you select a block of text.
To enable full screen, click on Page View at the bottom right panel of the editor and choose Full Screen.
Alternatively, use the shortcut Command+F11 on macOS and Control+F11 on Windows to enter the full screen mode.
And here's a fun tip: try using Focus, Night and Full Screen modes together. We're sure you'll love it!
