Tip of the week 50- How to craft an effective subject line? (Part-Two)

Hey again!

We hope the previous tips to craft effective subject lines helped you.

Email marketers would very well know that impactful words when woven together form an effective subject line.

So, let's learn how to choose and use them wisely.

1. Use the glittery word of the season

Every season brings in festive vibes along with it and everybody loves to get ready for the festivities.

While the readers are busy lighting up their home, a wise email marketer will take up this opportunity to light up the readers' inboxes with amazing email content and eye catching subject lines that are sure to get more engagement.

This holiday season, use words like, unwrap gifts, tree-mendous sale , magical offers , festive treats that offer value to your customers.

Example

Sender  - The Tastemakers

Subject - Make the most of Festive Treats!

2. Say no to spam words

The biggest nightmare for email marketer is their email getting trapped in the spam folder.

This happens because very often in the quest for creating urgency, email marketers include words such as discount, free, best price , $$$, in the subject line , which will make the receivers email service provider to suspect your email and push it to the spam folder.

So, in Zoho Campaigns, before you send your email to your target audience,we carry out a review process to check if your email meets the industry standards to prevent it from getting trapped in spam folders.

Yet, it is always better to be responsible and avoid such spam words from your end to be precautionary and adapt good email marketing practices.

Example

Sender -  The Fab Ltd

Subject - Unlimited offers available on new arrivals

Sender - The Fab Ltd

Subject - Great offers available on new arrivals

 3. Avoid filler words

Every word matters when you create subject lines which are short but at the same time create great impact.

So, it is always advisable to eliminate filler words to quickly grab the attention of the readers.Filler words are the one that take up huge space and yet they add no extra value to the sentence like- Hey, okay , thank you, long time no see.

So, weed out filler words and spin up crisp subject line to win the email game.

Example

Sender - The Food Zone

Subject - Long time no see, check out offers here

✓

Sender -  The Food Zone

Subject - Check out offers here

4. Choose the first word wisely

Every subject line will have that one key word that holds the entire essence of your email campaign.

Identify, analyse and pick it up to make better use of this game changing key word by placing it as the first word of your subject line.

This will make it easier for the readers to understand the objective of your email in clean, crisp and quick manner.

Example

Sender -  The Men's wear

Subject - Festival seasons are finally here, so get 25% off on all base layers.

Sender -  The Men's wear

Subject - Get 25% off on all base layers for this festive season.

5. Say NO to CAPS

Don't go to the extent of pushing CAPS in your subject line just to catch the attention of your readers. This will present your email as too pushy and shouty, which will later on end up in spam folders.

That's not the kind of ending you wish for your email, right?

So, it's better to avoid CAPS at any cost, but if you still want to use CAPS to stand out, one can try to CAPS the keywords alone to make it look subtle and eye-catching at the same time.

Example

Sender - The New Trends

Subject - GRAB THIS OFFER NOW

If crafting content for emails, getting creatives done, and running email campaigns is your love, then unsubscribes are the heartbreakers.  You can save your emails from being unsubscribed/trashed by adding a proper subscription-preferences option in your emails (works best at the time of signup). Giving subscribers the option to choose what they want to receive from you and decide how often (frequency of the emails) your emails should hit their inboxes will increase the reach of your campaigns manifolds.
