A couple of weeks ago, Yahoo as well as AOL made a significant change in their email validation policy where they have increased their email security by strengthening their DMARC policy. According to this policy, they’ve clearly instructed the other email service clients to reject the mails that come from Yahoo/AOL sender address but not sent from Yahoo/AOL servers.
In last few years, there is a surge in email based forgeries such as email spoofing, account hacking, and phishing attacks to acquire account credentials, and credit card details. In order to avoid this, Yahoo and AOL decided to increase the email security by sending emails in a secured way and reduce the chance for a spammer or hacker to send malicious or unsolicited messages.
Yes, there may be short term impact on email deliverability for those users who use their yahoo address to send email campaigns.
To put it simpler, if you are sending an email campaign from Zoho Campaigns and your sender address is a yahoo address (for e.g. johndoe@yahoo.com), there is a high possibility for your emails to get bounced.
There are two ways of dealing with this policy so that you remain unaffected.
We sincerely suggest you to move to your own domain based sender address (es) rather than using a yahoo domain.
For instance, if your registered domain is zillum.com, we recommend going for a sender address such as patricia.b@zillum.com rather than patricia.b@yahoomail.com or patricia.b@aol.com.
Another suggestion is to authenticate your email domains using SPF and DKIM.
For further information on how to overcome this change, we suggest you to take a look at Yahoo & AOL recommendations.
We do understand this has caused inconvenience to few users but if we look at the larger picture, this is evolutionary to protect the safety and security of users and believe this would act as an anti-dote to internet based forgeries at different levels.
Let’s see who’s next to join this band of email validation.
