Update Tasks

If you want to edit the details of your task, you can edit and update it in a single click.

Enable Update Option

Here is the update option that can be handy. Just, select the checkbox next to the task and enable the Update option. You can update tasks one by one or in bulk. You can close, prioritize, assign or un-assign the task owner, associate issues, change billing type or move tasks to another task list.

  1. Navigate to the task Classic or Plain view inside the project.
  2. Select multiple tasks to highlight the update options.
  3. Select a field to update it.
  4. The changes will be applied to all the tasks selected.
Bulk updating in plain view will reflect only in those projects where the custom field is associated. Updates to default fields will reflect in all projects.

Bulk Update Dates

  1. Navigate to the task Classic or Plain view inside the project.
  2. Select multiple tasks to highlight the update options.
  3. Click Start Date or End Date.
  4. Select the new date. The start or end date will be saved.
The following conditions apply for bulk update of dates:
  1. A maximum of 30 tasks can be updated in classic view.
  2. For dependent tasks: Only the parent task date will reflect the new date. Dependent tasks will be updated based on the dependency and lag and lead time.
  3. For roll up tasks: If both parent and subtasks are selected for bulk update of start date, the date will be updated for the main parent task. If both parent and subtasks are selected for bulk update of end date, the date will be updated for the bottom-most subtask.
  4. When bulk updating dates in plain view, if the selected tasks belong to multiple layouts, then the values of the layout associated to the tasks will get updated.

Bulk Update of Task Owner

Task owners can be updated in bulk. Zoho Projects provides multiple options for updating task owners.
  1. Navigate to the task Classic or Plain view inside the project.
  2. Select multiple tasks to highlight the update options.
  3. Click on Owner. Multiple options will be displayed.
    Replace Task Owners: The users selected here will replace all the existing task owners if any.
    Add Owners: Users selected here will be added as task owners. Existing task owners will not change.
    Switch Task Owners: Select a task owner to be switched out and replaced by a new task owner.
    Unassign Tasks: Tasks will be marked as unassigned.
    Unassign Selected Owners: The users selected here will be removed as tasks owners.

Edit Tasks Inline

Inline editing allows you to edit a task directly in the page you view, instead of editing in a separate page. You can edit the text in the same page where it is displayed. If you have created a task without specifying some fields like Start Date, Duration and so on, you can later make changes directly in the task row without opening the task. To add a start date for a task, you just need to click the down arrow and select the date.
