Generating AI Summaries of Candidate Profiles
Recruiters often spend a lot of time going through resumes to understand a candidate’s background. Some resumes are several pages long, while others are too brief or formatted inconsistently. This makes it difficult to quickly evaluate candidates or share their details with hiring managers/clients.
Profile Summary addresses this problem by generating a structured overview of the candidate’s resume. Powered by Zia, it picks up the most relevant details—skills, experience, qualifications, and accomplishments—and presents them in a clear, easy-to-read format.
Instead of reading an entire resume, you get the essence of a candidate’s profile at a glance. You can use this summary to:
- Review candidates quickly.
- Compare multiple profiles side by side.
- Share concise summaries with clients or managers instead of lengthy resumes.
The summary is organized into five sections:
- Overview
- All Skills
- Experience
- Qualifications
- Accomplishments
How It Works
Recruiters can use Zia to generate a comprehensive summary of a candidates profile from their resume.
Summary Type | Advantages |
Bulleted (default) | Provides a clear, point-based list of important details for quick scanning. |
Descriptive | Offers a short narrative-style overview that gives better context and flow. |
The generated summary is stored in the Profile Summary field of the respective candidate record. It can be shared through emails or documents using merge fields.

Enabling Profile Summary
Go to Setup > Zia > Profile Summary.
Turn on the Profile Summary toggle.
Select the summary type (Bulleted or Descriptive), choose the modules where the summary should be supported, and set the summary language. Finally, click Save.
Note:
- A resume must be attached to generate a profile summary.
- Supported resume formats: PDF, DOC, DOCX, and TXT.
- You need resume attachment permissions for the supported module(s) to generate a summary.
- For users who are already using Profile Summary, this enhancement will be disabled by default for the Applications module.To enable it, navigate to: Setup > Zia > Profile Summary, and select Applications under Supported Modules.
- The generated summary will be stored in the Profile Summary field in the Candidates and Applications module. Administrators can manage access permissions from the Field Permissions page.
As a column in the Candidate/Application list
- Go to the Candidates/Applications module.
- Click Add columns and select Profile Summary. Reorder if needed, then click Save.
- The column will now display a summary icon, which you can click to view the candidate’s profile summary.
Through Quick View
- In the Candidates/Applications module, open Quick View.
- Click Show Summary to see Zia’s overview without opening the full record.
From the resume in the candidate/application detail page
- Open the candidate/application record and click the Resume sub-tab.
- In the Resume section, click Show Summary.
Example Scenario
A recruiter is preparing a shortlist of candidates for a hiring manager. They include the Profile Summary merge field in the email template so that AI-generated candidate overviews are automatically inserted.
Once the email is sent, the summary for each submitted candidate appears in the email, providing a clear and structured overview without any manual drafting.
