Initiating and Joining One-on-One Audio, Video, and Screen-Share Calls in Trident (macOS)

In this article, we'll explore how to initiate and join one-on-one audio, video, and screen-share calls, as well as how to use the various call features.

Initiating One-on-One Audio or Video Call

To initiate a one-on-one call:

  1. Open the one-on-one chat with your teammate. 
  2. Click the Call  icon in the chatbox header.
  3. Choose between Audio Call or Video Call.

Alternatively, you can also:
  1. Click the Call  icon in the app menu bar.
  2. Click New Call
  3. Search for the contact with whom you want to connect.
  4. Hover over their name from the search result and choose between Audio Call or Video Call.

Initiating Screen Share Call

To initiate a screen-share call:

  1. Open the one-on-one chat with your teammate. 
  2. Click the Call  icon in the chatbox header.
  3. Select Screen Share.
  4. In the Choose Screen to Share window, choose whether to share your entire screen or a specific window, then click Share

Alternatively, you can also:

  1. Click the Call  icon in the app menu bar.
  2. Click New Call
  3. Search for the contact with whom you want to connect.
  4. Hover over their name from the search result and select Screen Share  icon.


Notes: 
  • If you're unable to share your screen, you must grant Screen Record access from System Settings.
  • You can initiate a screen-share call only in one-on-one chats. You can, however, share your screen while on a one-on-one audio and video calls and meetings.
  • Screen-share calls by default are voice calls. You can turn on your video, if you prefer. 

Converting Audio or Screen-Share Call to Video Call

To convert an audio or screen-share call to video call, turn on the video by clicking the Camera  icon.


Converting a One-on-One Call to a Meeting 

To add more participants to a one-on-one call:

  1. Click the More Options  icon.
  2. Select Add Users from the menu list.
  3. Search and select the users you want to add to the call.
  4. Rename the call by giving it a call title.
  5. Click Ring All


Joining a One-on-One Call

When you receive a call, you can choose to accept, decline, or respond to it with a message. 

Accepting or Declining a Call

  • To accept an incoming call, click the Accept Call  icon.
  • To decline an incoming call, click the Decline Call  icon. 
Note: You can join one-on-one calls in audio-only mode when Trident is locked. However, if you want to view or share your video and screen, you will need to unlock the app. 


Responding With a Message

To respond to a call with a message, and decline the call:
  1. Click Respond With Message.
  2. Choose between any of the templated messages.
  3. Alternatively, write your own message and hit the return key to send it. 

 Transferring Calls  

If you've attended a call through other Cliq clients, you can seamlessly transfer the call to Trident. To do so:

  1. Go to Trident.

  1. Click Transfer Here under the Ongoing Calls section on your home screen.

  2. Select Handoff to This Device.


Using Call Features

The following are the features available in the call window.

Shrinking or Expanding Call Window

To give you more screen space and focus on other apps while you're on a call, you can shrink or expand the call window size. 

  • Click the Shrink  icon to shrink the call window size.
  • Click the Expand  icon to shrink the call window size. 


NotesNote: These configurations do not impact the other person's view. 

Focusing Video Tile

Click the Flip  icon to choose the video tile you want on focus.


Note: This configuration is only applicable for video calls and does not impact the other person's view. 

Muting or Unmuting Audio 

To mute or unmute your audio, click the Microphone  icon.


Notes: 

  • You can also mute or unmute your audio from the app menu bar.
  • If you're unable to access audio, you must grant Microphone access from System Settings.

Turning Video On or Off

To turn your video on or off, click the Camera  icon.


Notes: If you're unable to access video, you must grant Camera access from System Settings.

Changing Audio and Video Device 

By default, the audio and video will be paired with your MacBook. To change your audio or video device:

  1. Click the More Options  icon.
  2. Select Device Settings from the menu list.
  3. Choose the desired Microphone, Speaker, and Camera device from the available options. 

Managing Screen-Sharing Sessions

Sharing Screen in Audio Call

To share screen in an audio call:

  1. Click the More Options  icon.
  2. Select Start Screen Share from the menu list.
  3. In the Choose Screen to Share window, choose whether to share your entire screen or a specific window, then click Share

Sharing Screen in Video Call

To share screen in a video call:

  1. Click the Screen Share  icon.
  2. In the Choose Screen to Share window, choose whether to share your entire screen or a specific window, then click Share


Show or Hide System Interface

You can choose to show or hide your macOS system UI during screen share. To do so:

  1. Click the More Options   icon in your call window.

  2. Select Show While Screen Sharing from the menu list.

  3. Choose the UI elements that can be shown while screen sharing.

You can choose to show:

  • Call Window

  • System Notifications and Widget Panel

  • Dock

  • Finder

  • Spotlight

 

Hiding Cursor

To hide your cursor while screen-sharing:

  1. Navigate to the screen-share toolbar. 
  2. Click Disable Cursor


Minimizing Screen-Share Toolbar

To minimize the screen-share toolbar:

  1. Navigate to the screen-share toolbar. 
  2. Click Hide


Note: You can open the screen-share toolbar by clicking More Options  > Show Screen-Share Controls and also by maximizing it from the dock.


Annotating the Shared Screen 
You can annotate the shared screen to guide your presentation effectively. To annotate the shared screen, click the Annotate  icon in the screen share toolbar.


The following annotation options are available:

Ending Screen-Share

To end screen-share:

  1. Navigate to the screen-share toolbar. 
  2. Click Stop

Alternatively, you can also click the Stop Screen Share  icon from the call window. 


Sending Messages While on Call

To send a message or share files to the person you're on a call with:

  1. Click the More Options  icon.
  2. Select Open Chat from the menu list.

To close the chatbox:

  1. Click the More Options  icon.
  2. Select Close Chat from the menu list.

Ending the Call

To end an ongoing call, click the End Call  icon. 


Notes: 

  • Both the person who initiated the call and the one who joined can end the call. 
  • You can also end the call from the app menu bar.
