How to trigger document merge in Zoho Writer

Overview 

Zoho Writer document merge can be triggered in four ways: manually, on a schedule, on form submission, or via an incoming webhook. This flexibility allows you to choose the most suitable automation method—whether you want to merge documents instantly by clicking a button, at set intervals, automatically when a form is submitted, or in response to an external application sending data to Writer

Steps 

How to trigger merge manually

  1. Open the merge template in Zoho Writer.
  2. In the Automate tab, When To Merge -> Manually / On Trigger.
  3. Click Run Merge to merge the document manually.

How to schedule a merge

  1. Open the merge template in Zoho Writer.
  2. Choose On schedule under When to merge.
  3. Choose your desired date and time to schedule the merge and click Schedule. 

Note:  Scheduling mail merge at regular intervals is currently not supported, but will be supported in future in Zoho Writer.

How to trigger merge after a form submission

  1. Open the merge template in Zoho Writer.
  2. Choose On Zoho Forms submission under When to merge.
Note: Zoho Forms should be configured as a data source

How to trigger merge using an incoming webhook

  1. Open the merge template in Zoho Writer.
  2. Choose On Incoming Webhook under When to Merge.
  3. In the Incoming Webhook URL dialog that opens, click Generate Webhook URL.
  4. Enter a name and description for the webhook and create a webhook token or use your existing webhook token.
  5. Copy the generated webhook URL and click Create.
  6. Now, when an activity takes place in the third-party application, the incoming webhook will be triggered and merge will be run.
Note: You can provide the webhook payload data as JSON, Form Data or URL Encode (Dot Notation, Underscore Notation), or as an Array.
