Tips and Tricks #30: Choose the best theme for your presentation

We're back with another tips and tricks post for you all. In case you missed our previous post in the Tips and Tricks series, you can find them here .
 
Themes help maintain consistency and connect all the slides in a presentation. 
 
Using ready-made backgrounds and formatting presets such as colors, fonts, placement frames, and effects means you hardly have to spend time formatting slides.
 
Your design choices can often make or break your presentations, so it's important to pick the right theme to help viewers stay engaged and understand your information easily.
 
So how do you pick the right theme for your presentation?
 
You need to have clarity on your subject and your target audience. This will help you pick the best design template for your slides.

Here are a few suggestions for deciding on a theme for your presentations in Show:   
  1. Light themes are subtle and make your slides look clean and simple. Their professional appeal makes them ideal for any corporate presentation. They are more versatile and suitable for all types of room lighting.  With dark, contrasting text, these are preferable for slides because they are easy to read. They are also more accessible for people with vision trouble. You can use light themes to show off beautiful charts and tables.

    For instance, try using Show's Monochrome theme to give a presentation on analytics or comparing growth rates.   
      
  2. Dark themes can look stylish and modern. They can also be used for many business scenarios. Because the screen reflects less light, your audience will focus on you and look at the screen only when you refer to slides. You can emphasize key points using highlighters and laser pointers clearly.

    Dark backgrounds look good on smart TVs and are perfect for a long presentation. Moreover, they help viewers easily read the light fonts on them.



    For instance, Show's Evolutionary theme uses light text on a dark background which stands out well. This can be a good choice in meetings at big conference halls.
  3. Patterns in themes provide a more interesting framework for presentations. In Show, you can find several preset designs with patterns and shapes. These help you create more engaging content. For instance, you can use Show's Celestial theme to bring the effect of space in presentations. The theme uses spheres with rings to resemble planets.

    Similarly backgrounds like Cultural , Elegance , and Brainstorm help you communicate ideas effectively.

    You can also check out other vibrant themes like Origami , Motion , Brushstrokes , and Oblique that offer more colorful slides.
  4. Image oriented themes are perfect for inspiring and capturing attention. These help you split presentation into sections. For instance, in Show's Experimental theme, you can use Title , Title Only , and Section Header slides to create sections like Introduction, Company Evolution, Challenges, and so on. You can also use your own images to make it more personalized, or keep the default images for efficiency.
    Relevant images in background help viewers begin to understand the message even before you speak. The moment your presentation becomes visible on the screen, effective images help them quickly relate to the context. This helps catch their interest so they pay attention to what you have to say.

    You can also awe your audience using alternatives to images in themes. For instance, in Experimental , you can substitute the background images with graphics and quotes.
