Unable to charge GST on shipping/packing & Forwarding charges in INDIA
Currently, tax rates only apply to items. It does not apply tax to any shipping or packing & forwarding charges that may be on the order as well. However, these charges are taxable under GST in India. Please add the ability to apply tax to these charges.
As per Section 15, CGST Act 2017, Shipping, Packing, Forwarding or any other charges which are incurred by the supplier and charged to the customer, are liable to be taxed at the Highest GST Rate charged in that Invoice.
Adding Shipping Charge as a Line Item, as suggested by a ZOHO Care team member is not how it should be achieved. Most of the customers disallow the GST on these charges when charged as line item on the invoice. Which results in either loosing the customer or be in-compliant to the GST Rules. Therefore it should be implemented in its right manner.
The said feature should also be looked into for the Purchase Bills modules, so that the purchase bills could also be accorded with as high GST compliance as possible.
One way that it can be achieved is
The Shipping Charge Field should accompany a Tax Rate Selection field, (or should automatically apply the highest tax rate charged in that invoice for principal goods or line items) and the Shipping Charge be added to the Sub-Total, The Tax amount be added to the respective Tax Amount field(s).
Total Table should look like
Total Item Value
Shipping Charge @ Tax Name & Rate
Sub-Total (Incld Shipping Charge)
Tax Amount 1
Tax Amount 2
Invoice Total (Incld Taxes)
Example,
Value of Goods 1= 10000 @18% IGST
Value of Goods 2= 9000 @12% IGST
Packing charges= 1000 @(will be charged at IGST rate of goods 1 i.e. @18%)
IGST 18%= 1980
IGST 12%= 1080
Total= 23060
I hope this helps.
The said feature in the manner described above is already available in all other accounting softwares like- tally, busy, quickbooks, gimbooks, marg erp, realbooks etc.
Kindly implement the same on an URGENT basis, so as to allow the business that use ZOHO to be GST more compliant and avoid any penalties by the GST Department in the country.
